[ Build Log ] Arc Midi

New computer build to replace my aging computer that i built on rather small budget a few years back in college.

Here's the current parts list:

Case - Fractal Design Arc Midi
PS - Seasonic X750
Mobo - ASRock Extreme 4 Z77
CPU - Intel i5-3570k
RAM - Gskill 2x8gb DDR3 1600
SDD - Crucial M4 256gb
HDD - WD 1tb green (reused from old rig)
GPU - EVGA GTX 670 FTW 2gb
CPU Cooling - Corsair H100
Case Cooling - 3 stock fractal fans running off the including fan controller with the case.

Mods:
Done - MDPC Shade 19 and color X sleeving on all power wires, black sleeving for front panel, mostly hidden anyways. First time getting serious with the sleeving, I went with heatshrinkless as much as possible.
To Do - Going to put in a tinted window showing the motherboard mostly. Hoping it will be dark enough so you dont see much inside, except the light on the H100 block.
To Do - RGB or white only LED strips inside for lighting
To Do - debating about replacing fans with some bitfenix LED fans that have on/off control.

Here's a few pics so far, still working on taking better ones while i finish things up.

I did some quick bench testing to make sure everything works before I dove into sleeving the power supply.

One annoying thing with the Seasonic fully modular supply.. it splits the 24pin connector into a 10 and 16pin on the PS side, doesn't make the wires come out clean
being all crossed up once connected, managed to get that hidden on the backside though for the most part.

All done

I soldered in the sense wires mid way to keep the MB connector clean. Zip ties are in attempt to get the wires and clean as possible since it isn't a one to one connection..
The zip ties are staying on for awhile to try and train the wires.

Starting to put everything in, the other sleeving went pretty quick.

I will cut all those zip ties from the mobo side out in a couple weeks, between the heat and those, the wires should stay in place fairly well.
Just picked up a piece of smoked acrylic for the side panel window, been tossing around a couple ideas going to go with the shape on the right, keeps the PS and 5.25" bays covered but shows everything else.

Thanks!

I was going to go with a corsair hx650 supply but the seasonic went on sale, figured it would provide a little extra headroom for SLI down the road.

Update time for my project.

I got the front and top mesh painted in red for some contrast to match the sleeving.

Front mesh

Sanded off the black paint

First coat, I ended up doing 3 coats since I didnt want to go too heavy on them.
Used Krylon dual paint+primer banner red.

Finished front panel

Finished top panel, no in progress pics but I sanded it down like the other piece.

Temporary position on the desk while im still working on it

Removed all the zip ties from the sleeved wires, came out alright for the most part, I might do a little adjusting still.

Time to cut..

Giant hole..

Came out pretty dark like I was hoping. Dont really notice there being a window with no back lighting at the moment except the H100 block.
PK58n.jpg

I don't like the look of U channel molding for the side windows, its just double back taped to the inside with about 1/2" overlap around the edges.
I might try some plastidip around the edge for molding to give it a cleaner look since the cut lines are a bit harsh even with all the filing i did.

That's it for now.

RGB led strip on order so I should be able to light it up this coming week.
Also need to look at some other fans to replace stock ones, the H100 fans can get a bit loud.

Another update..

Got the LED strip lights installed, they came with a controller and remote. Fun to play with the colors but probably keep it red most of the time.
lSryg.jpg?1

One 3 part section to go around the opening of the case and a smaller one that fits behind the H100 radiator and shines down.

Got a bit messy.. not enough tools out haha

What it looks like right now, just a quick picture

Still wrapping up the side window, hopefully next weekend.
Got some fans to replace the stock H100 fans too so those will be going in soon
