3D TV Question?

Thread Starter
Does a 3D TV automatically play a 3D side by side video in 3D, or do you have to have some sort of codec installed? What I'm getting at is on my laptop I have some 3D SBS movies I've downloaded. They show up as side by side when I play them on my laptop. If I hook up my laptop to a 3D TV, will they look 3D or still side by side?

I’m pretty sure the 3D TV will only display what the laptop is outputting, so you will still see the side by side image. No codec on the laptop will fix that either.

So then If the TV doesn't do it and the laptop can't do it, what puts the picture together for 3D viewing?

A signal direct to the 3D TV.

You need player software that is capable of outputting 3D video, what are you using to play it at the moment?

Thanks for the answers, but I tested it out last night. The 3DTV immediately detected that a 3D source was coming in and said to push the 3D button on the remote in order to watch the movie in 3D. Once I pushed the 3D button, the TV took the two side by side images and made it into the 3D image. This was on a passive 3DTV. It came out looking great.
