Best card (cards) to max gaming at 1440p? - Page 2

It doesn't really matter. I'd recommend a 7950, personally, due to extra VRAM and better multimonitor support. I also prefer endoursing AMD due to their business ethic, as long as I'm not making substantial sacrifices to do so.
It's worth noting that nV is no longer overclock-friendly, so if that matters to you, read up on recent business strategy changes.

I would like to point out that many of those still have fairly low FPS... I have to turn settings down in many games with my 670.

If I sli/crossfire would running one card in 8x and the other 16x make a big difference? Reason I ask is with my soundcard I would have to sandwich it between both or run it off my 3rd pci-e port which I'm not sure would affect anything.

Indeed! It was more a green v red chart than anything. SLI would be needed for solid 60fps.

Also which 7950 would you Guys reccomend? If I go with nvidia I'll probably stick to MSI I think they have been good to me. So difficult ><</div>

It's really not going to matter x8 vs x16. Running a GTX 690? Maybe. But these cards? No issue.

I would buy this MSi 7970 Lighting from Amazon Warehouse for just about what some GTX 670's run...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B007NG3WQI/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ

You get the warranty with the card, MSi uses the serial number. I just bought my MSi 7970 OC for $300 and it has almost 3 years of warranty on it.

Thanks for the link! Did not know that those came with warranty. How does the lightning compare to the vapor? I know nvidia MSI cards are great but i remember reading the lightning ran a bit hot and loud but I might be remembering wrong. Thanks again smile.gif

I had a long post in another thread as to why I preferred the Vapor-X over the Lighting. Really what it came down to was the Lighting was more than the Vapor X, by about $120, and for pretty much no gain. Each have their pros and cons over the others, but not enough to warranty passing up the Lighting at the price Amazon Warehouse has it at. The Lighting is a mean mean card.

Do they get lower than the 440 amazon has them at now? New egg has it new for 480 with sleeping dogs which if sold probably brings it to like 460
post #20 of 38
Amazon's price is the lowest I have ever seen the Lighting, I just checked NewEgg and they have it new for $499.....

I am a cheapass and would buy it from Amazon, but some people like the idea of having a new factory sealed package...even at a premium.
