Intel has had the same prices on it's I5 processors since Lynnfield.

Core I5 750/760 - 229.99
Core I5 2500K - 229.99
Core I5 3570K - 229.99

Haswell's 4570K will launch at 229.99, It's 4770K will be 329.99-339.99. I honestly believe Broadwell is when we will see a 6 core mainstream I7 in july of 2014

That further proves my point. The 2400S beats out the 8150 in several tests.

Given the sporadic performance, that benchmark isn't very well optimized for AMD or Intel.

Unless you just have to have Linux, its better to just stick with Windows for everything since it has far greater support.

For an accurate comparison they need to be run at stock as the intel chip has a 300mhz advantage over what advantages it already has in this test.

It isn't an advantage. Stock speed doesn't matter. The FX series and Intels chips overclock to roughly the same top end clock speed on consumer cooling, so they should be benchmarked at the same clock. That is a main reason why Bulldozer couldn't compete. They sacrificed IPC for a higher clock and parallel type of architecture, except it doesn't clock higher. If AMD could clock to 6ghz and Intel only to 5, then a comparison at the same clock speed wouldn't make sense.

i think people are misinformed. These new processors have a better IPC and much better single thread performance. Increased by at least 8% to as much as 10% to be specific. SB->IB was 5-8% so you're looking at at least as within 5% single threaded performance vs a 2500k or similar processor and with 8 core it should beat any previous gen intel before IB. Basically, it's going to be worth it and it's going to perform well. for 200$, you simply could not make the argument that it's a bad deal. Not exactly sure hwat the power requirements are but i also heard a 20% decrease in power. correct me if i'm wrong, but that takes a 125w cpu down to 100w. Not nearly as good as intel's 76w but you're looking at 2x the cores. I think this may be the start of a bit of a comeback.

The point of that was to make an IPC comparison and show the performance gap. It was also to show what the future IPC gap will probably look like, and how much higher Steamroller will need to clock in order to match or beat Haswell in single-threaded performance.

What? Piledriver isn't even going to be close to the IPC of a 2500K. We're talking 30%+ slower and lets not forget the power consumption compared to ivy.

I'm not seeing a PD chip on that chart...

I hope so.. I'm ready to put all the speculation to rest and see what we're actually working with.
