I just tried this with my msi 670 pe oc 2gb card. Boosted up to 1142 core and when I joined MW3 the PC froze up and got BSOD. Never had this problem until I used this feature. Without it my card boost to 1162 max with no problems.

Rest of my rig

corsair tx750 v2 psu
i5 3570k cpu stock boost
8 gig 1600 dd3 ram
932 haf case

“lock” GTX 600 series cards to Boost Clock/Voltage while at idle or onload. Nevermind to eco friendly and i wonder feeding the chip 1.175v all the time is any good. rolleyes.gif

How safe is it to use the K Boost feature?

My GTX 670 FTW has the stock cooler.

I wonder what the point of K-Boost is supposed to be? I can't imagine why you'd want full speed and voltage all the time, unless you just like to hear the fans run.

I've been using it for the past 2 days now, I created a couple of .bat files that force idle & boost states through NVIDIA Inspector, so the card isn't running at full boost speeds 24/7.

Wouldn't it be easier to just not use K-boost? That way it'll boost when needed, and idle when not. Or am I missing something about the purpose of K-boost.

K-Boost should help stability during benching so the card doesn't constantly throttle up and down. For the record, I haven't tried this personally.

Some older games/applications will throttle at or below boost, K-Boost helps in these situations.

Also it helps with extreme benchmarking.

Definitely K-Boost is an advanced feature however, most users will not see any benefit to using it in most applications.
