Building new computer. Would like some insight.

I am currently in the process of putting some ideas together to build myself a new computer. Havent done this before. I know a few friends that have done it so probably will be able to get some help through them to help me build it. Anways, just thought id post what ive have in mind as the basis for it. Not looking to spend to much MAYBE 500~600.

Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Item #: N82E16822148767 $49.99

thought 500 GB should be fine. I was looking at SSD's and to be honest I really have the slighest clue what the advantage of that would be. Thought this would be fine for the memory storage.

BIOSTAR Hi-Fi A85W FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

I want to over clock (not even sure how to go about doing that) but read some reviews and it seems pretty legit for that.

AMD A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 7660D AD580KWOHJBOX

THE PROCESSOR AND MOBO COME IN A COMBO DEAL FOR $215

Was gonna get a A8-3800k i think it was. Read the trinitys are superior and the price difference didnt seem to much different so i think this should do the trick ay?

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B $40.99

will 8gb of 1600 be fine for O.C or should i get 1833+

RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEBP 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case With 500W Power Supply $84.99

Says it support ATX. Seems to look like an easy installation. Numerous fans for the cooling. I know they are stock but i think it should do?
oh and should 500W be fine?

Still have about 80 bucks to spare im not to sure what else i should throw in there/upgrade let me know your opinions please!

Since when has RAM been a bottleneck in anything but benching?
*nvm forgot how much the APU's like RAM*

Get a decent cheap little cooler something like a 212+
And I'd save the rest till you can get a card to crossfire with the APU.

CPU cooler

Only thing not there is operating system and optical drive. You could get away without having a cd/dvd drive but its nice to have.

The Smilodon is a decent case, I used to have one, but at 90 dollars, you could get a better case/ power supply separately and even save a few bucks.

You might consider springing for a Phenom IIx4 955BE and a mATX AM3/AM3+ board and save some money there, doing so would require you to get a dedicated GPU but you should be able to get something rather inexpensively that performs better.

I think with a budget of 600 you should be able to get some parts that will perform better than the APU

My total right now is actually 450~ with all listed. What if i just got a really nice GPU to put in on top of that?

and ill just use the old cd drive i have out of my dimension e510 lol
post #9 of 34
That would work; make sure that the connections for you cd drive match your motherboard...SATA or PATA etc...

and if you are going to get a gpu, it might not be a bad idea to pick one that will crossfire with your APU chip; fairly inexpensive for a decent gain in performance. I'd also recommend you get an aftermarket CPU cooler, especially if you want to OC

don't forget the operating system
