What if you hit a Bump, I dont see a CardBoard Rim holding out very well...
Excellent though I guess for races and stuff if you KNOW the way is smooth sailing

heh, not this thing actually looks to be fairly sturdy. The inventor rides it around and I am just guessing, but I bet they are weighing in at about 250lbs. He's fairly tall with a bit of a belly on him.

I think a lot of the water proofing comes from the coating that is put on it. However if it got scratched I can see rain being an issue, but it would probably get you home. At $20 you could probably just buy a new one once a month anyway. Though then you are basically renting a bike. I'd rather just go spend $500 or so on a "decent" bike and have it last for a few years.

Cardboard can get pretty strong. I've had some boxes that heavy items came in that were hard to break down. The box my elliptical machine came in I finally just got out my jig saw and cut it. You couldn't even bend most of it. The empty box and the little filler pieces of cardboard probably weighed 50 or 60lbs. It was nuts.

lol considering every other post in here is the same thing questioning its waterproofing, I will hazard a guess that I did well to not read through all the comments.

Id have to assume this thing would still need to be dipped or sprayed with something to keep moisture from ruining it.

But I honestly down know how they can make the "Rims" tough enough, I get the feeling that the first guy with actuall strong legs would just rip the bike in half one applying soem effort

They are going to fit these things with reflective material right? With current horrible bike riders on the road, we could use better precaution.

That would be the price conversion in Israel I think...likely will be more every where else. I am not sure if the source mentioned anything like that. They haven't massed produced it yet either. it might end up being less or more.

If the weight is good, I might buy one too. That is the only thing I don't like about my bike I have now...it is rather heavy compared to bikes I've had in the past. However it also has shocks on it that make it ride nice.

yah BMI is retarded, only once did I match my BMI for 6'1 with my large frame, but that was RIGHT after my final growth spurt, and I was very skinny looking but pretty well toned. I was still an every day Bike Rider so fat had little chance to attach anywhere
boy I miss those days lol

Haha, I was 58kg's at around 6ft last year. So anorexic.

Am around 75kg now, probably closer to 80. Actually don't look like a featherless chicken anymore!

I can easily see the torque twisting the drivetrain, heck I munched 3 chains in 14 months riding my BMX to school daily before getting a Halflink.

Though with a belt rather than a chain if there is too much torque I think the belt will slip before anything buckled on the bike.

The bike is waterproof and supposedly fireproof, and the video shows a fat man who is strangely not American riding the bike through a puddle without consequence.

Also, I want one.

And BMI? Since when has BMI meant anything?

BMI is still very important, based on medical synopsis of a person's health, insurance, surgery, other things. Very important. You may not think so, but it's how the 'medical' world views you. Especially insurance companies. They have standards set.

You said athletic people's weight was 'standard' at 200lbs, I was simply pointing out that's inaccurate. redface.gif

Sure you can be 200 lbs and not be 'fat' but again, for someone who has a height of 5'7" with an endomorph body type, even at 220 lbs based on BMI you're still very over weight. Maybe not at 6'6", nearly a whole foot taller. But anyways... just pointing things out for the sake of clarity.

I don't disagree with you. smile.gif

@ Everyone else - ask your insurance companies how they perceive your BMI by weight and height. It's nowhere near perfect - obviously - but it is the standard used.

Used ot go throuh Chains on the Raving Bike I had pretty often =( usually got a good 4 months out of them, but the thrust from my legs proved to be too much for those poor chains...
Damn near every bike I owned had bent pedals, though my Trek Mountain Bike was actually very rugged, only problem i had there was with Breaking the Plastic Pedals and I had to ben the Handlebars pretty often.

This thing Uses a belt??

BTW What Bike do you ride now Vagrant? I was always a trek guy, but my old Racing Bike I have no idea what it was (My Mother stole it from soemone long ago lol)
I cant really see the shocks adding much weight, and which kind of shock system are we talking about, Coil or Compressed Air Spring? and is it Hardtail or Full ?

I personally didnt like full suspension, Felt like i lost power to the back wheel when riding hard, my Trek had front compression Springs made of Titatnium and overall the Bike was not heavy at all.
