GTX 680 or AMD 7970

Guys, I am torn..... its my Bday soon and I'm getting alot of gift cards for tigerdirect... so the 6870's are going to be replaced... both cards have their advantages over eachother....

NVIDIA
- Physx
- higher stock clocks
- better drivers
- better benches in alot of games

AMD
- more vram
- overclocks higher
- less power consumption
- less heat


they are pretty much the same price I think nvidia is 50$ more but thats really not an issue.... I going to sell my current cards for 200 so should be an easy sell so money isnt an issue.... please people sell me on one or the other

This is completely false. The HD 7970 uses more power compared to the gtx 680.

the 7970 is a better buy at the current price, unless you desperately want physX or plan to extensively use 3d vision, get the 7970

Id grab a 7970 and overclock it. If there is no budget then grab a gtx 680. At 1080p it really doesnt matter.

Physx is only in games that support it, and there are very few of them.

7970 currently can be had for a lower/much lower price , when both are Overclocked 7970 equal or exceed 680 on most games at 1080p 4XAA, and pulls ahead in 8XAA or 1440p or any multimonitor high AA setups with its superior 384bit Bus & 3GB Vram. So Price/Performance/Longevity wise 7970 right now looks like a better buy.

If you really need PhysX or 3D Vision 2 then get 680(or 670 which is $100 cheaper and only 5% behind in performance), otherwise get 7970(or 7950 for the best price/performance high end card).
