Hi,

I just sold my Palit JetStream GTX 670, because it did have poor overclocking capacity and i didn't like those drops under 45fps when playing bf3 or borderlands2.
Now I'm wondering should i get HD 7970 1Ghz version (that's the enhanced version, right?) or should i get GTX680.

i could get this card

SAPPHIRE TECHNOLOGY Radeon HD 7970 Vapor-X GHz Edition
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/sapphire_hd7970_vaporx_ghz/2.htm

418 euros + shipping

and the cheapest GTX 680 reference would be around 480 euros + shipping.

Is that also true that with new ati drivers this 7970 runs games like a hurricane. The improvement was so huge with the new drivers?
Is this Sapphire Vapor-X Ghz good card if we compare it to other 7970 cards?

Should i change the "family" and go back to the Ati cards? I know that i loose physix, but that doesn't matter.

NVIDIA
- Physx
- higher stock clocks
- better drivers
- better benches in alot of games
- less power consumption
AMD
- more vram
- overclocks higher
- less heat
they are pretty much the same price I think nvidia is 50$ more but thats really not an issue.... I going to sell my current cards for 200 so should be an easy sell so money isnt an issue.... please people sell me on one or the other
*edit*
I play alot of BF3, borderlands, and skyrim
thnx, malo

I think with Borderlands 2 its a no brainer.

Wouldn't the 680 be more of the same but for a lot more money? I have a 680, but I haven't played BL2 on it, yet.

Yeah the drivers really picked AMD off the floor and over top in the higher resolutions and beyond.

If you weren't happy with one 670 I'm not sure you'll be that happy with either the 680 or 7970, that said with you resolution only being 1080p I would say the 680 would give you better performance in comparison 7970 as in less spikes in games as in more consistent fps and you wouldn't lose anything as far as physx.

If you moved to higher res where the 7970's pull away and then maybe the 7970 since they really walk all over 680s if you get a nice 1300/1700+ OC on one.

I will still say if you weren't happy with a 670 either go dual card, which the best performing value are SLI 670s and kinda sucks yo sold your old one, or CF 7950 for the best actual value but I dislike CF and prefer SLI as the superior technology.

PhysX is a big difference check this:

If you want the best performance/price then the 7970 is probably better

If you decide you really like PhysX and want the best card (but not best performance/price) then get the 680

Looking at the games you play and your 1080p resolution it would be better to go GTX 670 or GTX 680. preferably the EVGA GTX 670 FTW or Gigabyte GTX 670. if you want the extra 5% performance clock for clock get the GTX 680 and one of the two models EVGA GTX 680 FTW or Gigabyte GTX 680

Thanks for the reply,

I do know what you mean and i think both of you made a very good point. Reason why i'm thinking about buying that hd 7970 is that the price for the GTX 680 is kinda high here in Finland. Like i said the cheapest GTX 680 reference card is 480 + shipping and i know that i don't want card with the stock cooler. So i figure out that this 7970 1ghz version in 418e price is the cheapest price to get the most powerful card. Like you noticed i'm using 1080p (60hz) resolution so two card's would be overkill (I've been thinking about GTX 660 ti). I can afford what ever i want, but i want to be reasonable. So basically im thinking that i get more power that i did get with my poorly overclocking GTX 670 with the same price and i also get more power than GTX 680 at the lower price. I also understand that only MSI GTX680 with huge overclock is beating the hd 7970 now when the new ati drivers did come.... correct me if i'm wrong.

In the end of the day those few fps really doesn't matter, but you know how it is smile.gif

Get a 670 and oc it to a 680, the 670/680 are so neck and neck you may as well save the $100

edit: looks like I was alittle late to the party
