I read this as "Planet found in closest neighbours yard" and I was very confused, a good read though, I just need more sleep.

This. There was an article posted here or somewhere about slime mold.. anyway it was on a similar topic asking what is intelligence and that maybe our definition is off as the slime mold could solve problems w/o a brain. (zombies)

I think the fastest space craft we have ever built has a top speed of 17,000 MPH which is 7,600 metres per second. And seeing as the speed of light is just under 300,000,000 metres per second it would take a heck of a lot longer than 8 years to get there. And by a heck of a lot longer than 8 years I mean 39,446 years, if I worked out it correctly.

With today's technology yes, But the 8 year part was referring to half the speed of light,

but if we could somehow make a engine capable of speed of light it would only take 4.3 years. biggrin.gif

But if we suddenly invent a hydrogen fusion reactor........or manage to discover the tachyon particle, we will move a little faster. Ok, maybe i'm getting a little ahead of myself here. lol

I can dream can't i?

An orbital period of 3 days? Wow. How crazy would it be to go through all 4 seasons in 3 days?

How about no.
It is 4.3 light years away so this is another planet we (this generation and probably a few after) will never get to go to.

This. Going half the speed of light would still take over 8 years.

8 years for observers on Earth, less time than that would seem to pass for the travelers though. Although, at half the speed of light I don't think the difference would be significant, maybe a couple less months.

The problem with traveling at such speeds is you would need to start decelerating around half way to the target to prevent passing it up.

Which would make the trip take even longer.

Ya guy he just did the math on it, I don't think you need to hit him over the head with it again. He gets it.
