CyberPowerPc vs D-I-Y PC

Thread Starter
Hey guys. My friend and I are both getting new desktops for gaming and a little video capturing. I will be buying each individual part and putting it together myself, but my friend is set on getting himself a "custom" prebuilt pc from CyberPowerPC. I have been trying to get him to build it himself or have me build it for him, but he is dead set on getting it prebuilt. For about $100 less I am getting a higher end graphics card, and a better case. Other than that, I don't have any other reasons that he should go and build a pc himself. He really doesnt care about the warranty or anything.

PC is for Gaming, Video Capture, Video Editing, uploading.

The processor they have is an 8150 "Venom OC Certified" does anyone know how high that is? That is my main question

"Venom OC Certified" is 100% marketing BS. I doubt CyberPower would bin any cpu's for sale. That 8150 CyberPower is selling would probably clock less than the average OC here, for the sake of stability. Also, if you friend doesn't care about warranty, there is no reason to buy from CyberPower unless he's enamored by the case customizations they offer. I don't see any other logical reason why.

Even if he goes Cyberpower, make sure he doesn't go bulldozer. This is your duty as a friend!

It is more of a novelty build i guess. We lost a bet... It all goes downhill from there.

Actually I know a few people on OCN and around where I live that do basically the same things like laser engraving and lighting is nothing. just strap some led light strips and led fans inside the case

thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif Well he sounds adamant on getting a CyberPower pc, so there isn't much more you could do. I would just present him the pro's and cons of DIY vs prebuilt:

CyberPower Prebuilt:

  • Already built, ready to go
  • *cough* "Fancy" Cyberpower branding
  • Warranty (Invalided point since he doesn't care about it)
  • Limited selection of parts

DIY:

  • Better parts
  • Wider choice of components
  • Lower price
  • No warranty

So there is only the advantage of warranty, which he doesn't care about. He would save money and get a better pc with the DIY route. Ask him, does he see the sense in his choice?

My friend did the same thing several years ago. I built mine, he spent 3 times as much on an Alienware and got an inferior machine. If they are going to be stubborn about it, make sure yours outperforms his like crazy, and you need to constantly brag about how much better yours is. Obviously not the most sophisticated thing to do, but he will learn.

Wrong,

Every part you purchase new will have a warranty, typically much longer than the 1 year you get with OEM builders. With that said....

Just ask him if he wants a Big Mac or a Prime Rib steak.
