No, but if said raid goes down, I have identical hard drives to replace the dead drive with, thus rebuilding my raid and my data is redundant and safe once again. Plus, my livedrive backups:P

  • And when rebuilding your PSU shorts and your drives get roasted, what then?
  • Both drives die, what then?
  • Data becomes corrupted, what then?
  • You accidentally delete a file you need, what then?
  • There is a fire/flood where your PC dies, what then?
  • Raid controller/software corrupts, what then?
  • Someone steals your drives, what then?

Did I mention that I have a separate UPS for my external raid arrays? As well as one for my PC? They are EXTERNAL. ALL external.

HIGHLY unlikely. Near impossible unless there's a brownout, in which case, see my UPS response.

Again, highly unlikely.

Recycle bin.

Livedrive once a month. More than that (manually) if something really important needs backing up.

Quote:

Has happened. Was able to take either one of the previously raided drives, plug them in as single and the data was intact.

See livedrive.

Whammo.

I'm pretty securely protected, perhaps overkill for a home user:P Even still, I'm toying with the idea of building a decent sized (12TB or so) RAID10 server and sticking it on our supernet at work for extra security.

Posting this while rebuilding a customer's laptop who has lost all their as-built schematics due to HDD failure and no backup.

Oh lawdy I must obey the mighty Xeb, too bad I didn't back up my stuff a few moths ago. I was re-arranging some cabling so I needed a different pair of modular cables, however what I didn't know is they were no good. One flick of the switch and bam! no more SSD and HDD. axesmiley.png

Poor water on your system when open, there goes the components, UPS does not protect that! tongue.gif
Also, not everything goes to the recycle bin, there are other ways things can be deleted and not be in the recycle bin. tongue.gif
And I can list more things. biggrin.gif

All I have right now is a 2tb raid 1 array on a small home server. I guess if both drives decide to give out im screwed. I wish I had money for more drives so I can set up a raid 5/6 array for storage. I got those 2tb drives for $60 each last year and the price is still double =(

At least all my super important stuff is saved on there as well as my desktop
