Now, I only get about 2 min. after boot and the card clocks itself down to 135mhz core and 135mhz memory and will not respond to any changes (msi afterburner still shows the overclock, but GPUtool shows the 135/135 in the actual speed, but the sliders show my oc). Running furmark confirms the 135mhz speed - 1-2fps.
I have tried:
- reinstalling the os
- changing drivers (used 4 different)
- changing versions of msi afterburner
- reinstalling GPUtool
- reseating card and all psu connections to mobo.
Nothing is changing the result. Any ideas?
Here was my setup:

thats dead

That's what I figured. Any idea what the max temp on these 218 chips is? Furmark with my oc, set me at 39C. Stock cooler at stock speed was 41C. Not sure what I did, as it never got hot. Oh well, gonna see about getting it replaced. It's only 5 days old biggrin.gif

try volt modding it and uping it slightly, wasn't the temps that killed it, it just crapped out

I'd avoid furmark, it really has no use as a stress testing tool, it just lets you know how hot a card can get (& if it has weak VRMs, can kill it like the first 570s).
Heat wasn't out of hand so doubt that it was the heat, but in general if its hardware pretty much exclusively for benching, let the benchmarks determine stability. Stable for 3dmark 03 may not be game stable, but if 03 is the goal, stable enough to finish with a good score is all it needs.

Not worth voiding the warranty. Gonna try to exchange it first before I do anything that may physically alter it.

Gotcha. I guess I go a bit overboard trying to get things super stable. Next one I will just tune and go. Once I have a few baselines, it will get vmodded.
