Raid 0 or 10,000 RPM drive? - Page 2

RAID0 performance gain is less than 10% in real world and that is only on certain applications. You also have the increase chance of failure. Use a Raptor for your OS and system. Use the 250GB for media. This set up will give you a smoother experience. Also, do you need the new HD for storage or more for performance gain?

get two identical drives and go 3 way raid-0, plus you get 3 times the storage...for 10 bucks less than a raptor.

I vote for the second drive for a RAID-0 set up. I am about to do this also. One question, anyone with the wd2500ks (250gb 16MB) notice that it makes a little noise? Mine makes a little bit of noise all around, whether it be writing or reading, just wondering if it is normal or if I should RMA this bad boy. P.S. I know what failing HDs sound like and this does not sound like them, it also passes SMART tests with all 100% fitness and such.

Got four of 'em, and they're quiet for me. No particular noises as far I notice (just the usual accessing the drive noise, but you need to get close to the drives to hear that). My take is that if the noise is unusual in your ears, RMA it.

Upon closer inspection (running HD Tach and HD Tune to try to scrounge up some of the noise that I used to hear) (or thought I heard?) I have come to the conclusion that this drive is indeed quiet, the only sounds I heard were the accessing noises as you described, I am just freaking my self out.

4 raptors is like $800. You could buy a better GPU and a 4x250gb seagate setup for that cost.
