How to play Blu-Rays on custom desktop for free? - Page 2

no free solution for playyback with full bluray menus. what you need to do is download yourself a copy of total media theater 5....you could also find one of the demo copies of power dvd that came with bluray drives...or xbmc will play back blurayy without menus for free straight to movie...

I used MakeMKV to rip the Blu-Ray onto my PC, and it worked well. Since I don't want to pay for any software, I suppose this is my only option. Btw, the DVDFab seems to do the same thing as MakeMKV, so no way in hell I'll pay for that. tongue.gif

I just gave you another option....a free one.... XBMC...you did say it was an htpc right? so why own an htpc unless your gonna do a media center?tongue.gif jmho but you should look into xbmc and what it can do. besides you can stream tons of movies in HD on NAVI-X for xbmc... so no need to fill your hard drive with stripped bluray mkv,s you can watch your disc on xbmc or stream with it....
personally what I have done is to store complete dvd iso and bd iso copies on hard drives for playback in xbmc... makes a very sweet home theater library...

I think you are going about this the wrong way. Why don't you write a email to the manufacturer explaining that you bought your bluray drive and that you did not get software with it. I think they would be receptive. thumb.gif

XBMC can't play Blu-Rays, bub. I mean, I could play the MKV file in XBMC, but I still have to rip it first.

EDIT: I bought this drive OEM on Newegg. No software included.

I mean if it works that way it, then just call it a day rofl.
I usually prefer ripping vs playing directly since I get lazy and dont wanna switch the dvd discs rofl

I bought my first Bluray drive with the assumption that I could use it to play Bluray discs and was shocked that they created DRM without ensuring it could be decrypted by PC for customer playback use; there's nothing like forcing your potential customers to pirate the content they want.

You and me both. I went through three different players before I found one that would work on my system - Corel. Honestly, we are all just waiting for another DVDJon to pop up and provide a way for freeware players to crack the drm like they do with dvd. I mean it's absolutely insane, I have two dozen blu rays and I can't simply run the disc from a standard media player that is easily capable of playing the thing but for a lack of an decrryption algorithm. Gives new meaning to defective by design.
