go for a HD7970 or for a HD6990?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I currently have a HD6950 which isn't really giving me the performance I require.

so i kinda checked up on a upgrade..

I can get a HD6990 for 300 euro
and a HD7970 for 369 euro

or should I wait for the Real HD7990 AMD certified & not the fake powercolor one :O

I would go with 7970.

Newer technology and single core.

If you can, wait for the 8xxx series.

Also 7990 seems an interesting choice too.

Might as well do crossfire with another HD 6950 for cheaper. Failing that, I would also recommend a HD 7970.

HD 7970.

They are cheap and really great cards if you buy the right ones. HIS X, MSI Lightning. Don't ever buy a HD 6990, worst card I've ever owned.

I've owned HD 7970 xfire, GTX 680 4GB SLI, GTX 690, HD 7990, HD 6990 and a HD 7970 would be a good idea.

And the power color one is real and the only HD 7990 you'll probably see and it's a dam good card, best card I've probably ever used.

OP the best price perf card is the HD 7950. clock for clock HD 7950 is 3 - 5% slower than HD 7970. In the latest DX11 games the HD 7950 at 1.15 - 1.2 Ghz will be faster than HD 6990.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_7950_Vapor-X/31.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_7850_PCS_Plus/9.html

BF3 1920 X 1200 4X AA

HD 7950 (1135 Mhz) - 74.8
HD 7970 Ghz (1050 Mhz) - 72.3
HD 6950 - 35.1

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/his_radeon_hd_7950_iceq_turbo_review,19.html

Crysis 2 DX11 1920 x 1200 4x AA

HD 7950 (1125 Mhz) - 71
HD 6970 - 36
HD 6950 - 33

CF scaling in best cases is 1.8 - 1.9x. HD 7950 (1.15 Ghz) is more than 2x the perf of HD 6950. Also a single HD 7950 overclocked will provide more consistent performance than HD 6990 without any multi GPU issues like microstuttering. In games where CF profiles are not available or scaling is poor the HD 7950 will be significantly faster than HD 6950 CF or HD 6970 CF or HD 6990.

HD 7950 (1.15 - 1.2 Ghz) can max any game at 1080p and run at 60 fps.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/08/23/galaxy_gtx_660_ti_gc_oc_vs_670_hd_7950/3

The best HD 7950 cards are Gigabyte HD 7950 OC or Sapphire HD 7950 OC. excellent coolers and can cool 1.15 Ghz overclocks very well.
