Why? I came into this thread in EXACTLY the same position as the OP, and his post was very informative, and I hadn't seen it before.

You aren't the only person on the forum lol, there are worse posts on OCN than Rag's,

+Rep'd Raghu78

Agreed, if price is any issue (and it seems to be since the OP mentioned price comparisons), then he should probably get a 7950, and leave himself some extra money towards something else (maybe another 7950 in 6-12 months).

Noticeably more expensive($400-$430 without MIR vs $470+ without MIR) rolleyes.gif for the same or worse performance.

Payed 330euro for my 7970.
its a no brainer to get one.
as soon you get beyond 1920x1080 resolution towards 2560 or eyefinity the 7900 series is price and performance ratio outstanding.

Best card I ever owned.

I upgraded form HD 6990 to HD 7970. FPS are about the same. This was back when HD 7970 came out. Now its should be much closer. HD 7970 is just better overall. Less heat, problems, fps drop.

Look at the GHz edition 7970 here vs. GTX 680 (not talking about the overclocked 7970 Matrix in this review - just the actual generic GHz edition):

All the more obvious at 1600p.
