PC Upgrade Recommendations?

Thread Starter
Hi, Im looking to upgrade my system in the next couple of months, my below specs will remain the same except for 3 things: CPU, MOTHERBOARD, SSD.

The type of things I do on my computer consist of mainly, Starcraft 2 Gaming, Video editing in CS5 Newsleeching Bluerays and extracting big rar files/quickpar. Looking to improve these things as these are my only concerns with performance upgrades. Looking at both budget friendly build and alternative performance build

I am considering AMD and Intel at this point, 3 of the cpus I am interested in AMD A10-580K, I5 2500 and 3570 and wondering what the major differences are in these choices. All will be purchased from NCIX or Canada Computers for reference prices. I will not be overclocking the hardware.

If you will do video editing you would take advantage of the hyperthreading in i7 chips.

If you will go with Intel I would recommender 2700k or 3770k.

MOrning,

I have a quick question, if you're only gaming why are you upgrading, the machine you have is more than enough for any game on the market....

I think if you were to get this upgrade, you'd end up being disappointed with it since I doubt you'll see any real world benefits...

Out of the CPU's you listed, I'd get the 3570, slightly faster than the 2500, and tons faster than the A10.

It also supports PCI-E 3.0. As for a SSD, I'd either get a Samsung 830 or a Crucial M4, but I've read the Samsung 840 is coming soon.

I agree with this.

Take a look a this: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/55
Your current CPU beats all your suggestions in 7zip.
If you really want to upgrade then you should go big and go 3930k. Otherwise you are downgrading in parallel processing power.

SSD is a great upgrade though.

If there are only insignificant gains than I probably will wait it out, however the old parts will go straight into anopther computer case that I have lying around. I think I will probably upgrade to an ssd instead.

Any big differences between the different SSDs out there. Ive seen some ones for a pretty decent price. What are th elimiting factors of the speeds of the general motherboards out there and my current one in speed.

They're right. If you're satisfied with your gaming performance, you don't need to upgrade anything. For video editing and file extraction, a Thuban is still a powerhouse CPU; those are exactly the kind of tasks that put those six cores to work. You could go Intel and get a 2500K or better, and it might be a little faster, but not nearly enough to justify the expense. I do some of the same stuff, and I was going to get a Piledriver when it comes out, but honestly, I can't justify it when my overclocked 1035T does as well as it does.

If you want to speed things up, the SSD is the way to go.
