[KT] Team Fortress 2 Is Now Punishing Cowardly Quitters - Page 7

I'm fine with Valve punishing people abandoning on CS:GO's Competitive matchmaking. I don't even use matchmaking and it's listed as a competitive gamemode. I'm not fine with Valve punishing people for MvM. Not only does Mann vs. Machine require you to use matchmaking but it's also not declared to be a competitive gamemode.

It's not much of a loss to me though. I tried to get into a MvM match 2 weeks after its release and the wait time was still 20 minutes. I'm not going to wait 20 minutes just to play a game, it's insane.

Yes, but its me having to wait longer simply because I'm not playing a video game the way valve wants me to. I have to think about what I'm doing so as not to be punished for having a life. It's dumb. Your arguement is "geez, can't you wait a little longer?" Can't other people just go rejoin another game? Can't they restart? Can't they simply not take a video game so seriously that they need to cry and whine every time the game doesn't go their way or someone leaves and puts them at a disadvantage. I see a lot of people defending valves move with "well, it ruins the game for others" while ignoring the fact that its soon not gonna be a game if there are rules and punishments for not playing a specific way.

I'm not gonna quote but one guy in this thread even told another user he is planning his day poorly if he needs to drop out of a game half way. So the user needs to schedule his life around a game, so as not to piss off the dev/publisher/other players. Seriously?

Valve and other in this thread are being far to serious, need to step away from their computer, and realize that "Life Happens."

Again, if they want to get anal create a special competitive server and let the rest of us people who want to play for fun, have fun. You guys can all get together and complain/whine about every little thing together in the competitive server, plan your lives around your game, and not be bothered by "stupid newbs" like myself. When a game removes the fun, its not a game, its work...

TF2 is a moneymaking machine for valve. I honestly do not know what the hype is about... if you want to play a silly FPS Borderlands is a much better game... I have never understood why anyone thinks TF2 is that amazing. I have plenty of hats in my closet.

From what I read no one knows how many times you gotta do it before punishment starts happening.

It's more than likely judged upon after a consecutive quitting streak. After 3 consecutive quits, your quit rating is more greatly affected. If you only quit every several rounds or quit very shortly after joining, it might not count against you or might not affect you that badly. All speculation of course; it's how I would implement such a system.

Sorry but I have to disagree with your take on it. There have been plenty of times where I "have to" leave a game midway for reasons similar to your points. Have to get to work, have to spend time with the wife, have to get dinner, only got on to play for a few quick rounds for the night, etc. and even then, I've felt bad leaving in an intense round of Left 4 Dead, or back in the day, Starcraft/Diablo 2. It sucked when other players dropped out on me, so I hated doing it to them as well. Even in such scenarios, I support this. FREQUENT quitters should be penalized. If you FREQUENTLY know you can only play for a few minutes, knowing dinner will be ready in 10 minutes, don't freakin' play. Wait until after dinner.

If you are going to go AWOL on your team during a normal match time (Mobas: 40 mins to an hour, not sure how long MvM can go, and CS matches what, 30 mins or less competitive?) You should not play those games. You are essentially ruining that same amount of time for every other player in the match. I'm sorry you can't get your last 20 mins in with my opinion. I know its rough you have to go do something other than the laning phase in a moba for your spare time.

It is incredibly inconsiderate to ruin the game for everyone else so you can have your 20 mins of fun and they can suffer for the last 20.

This isn't even taking the game seriously, it is demolishing the balance in a game to leave the teams unbalanced in most games. Makes that time everyone spent in that game worthless, I don't know if any of you are like me, but when I am 1 of 5 vs 4 I don't have as much fun as 5v5. Not to mention if anyone else leaves that game because they don't want a 4v5 they get a deserter penalty in a lot of games.

(I used 5v5 because I am addicted to smite right now. The same theory fits most games though.)

Quitting a team game is like wearing socks with sandals.
It's like putting ketchup on eggs.
It's like wearing fake glasses as a fashion accessory.
It's sick, wrong, and everybody who does it must be punished.

Every one of those examples is WIN!

Good guy Valve:

People constantly leaving
Punishes them.

Scumbag Riot:

People constantly leaving
"We won't do anything, but hey can you help us by logging into the tribunal and reading through the entire chat log and seeing if they deserve to be punished at the end of the year?"

No, you shouldn't plan your life around a game, if it comes to that point, maybe you should pick other games.

You seem to think that it's your right to play a game whenever and however you want to, but that is not the case. Things that you're talking about wouldn't fly in any sort of game or sport. If you were playing backyard football with a group of people and just left whenever you felt like it, they'd eventually kick you out. The same goes for any sort of group activity.

Does the system make difference between people quiting the whole game for awhile, with people who just quit the match and enter another match because they were losing? I got the idea system just checks for "abandoning" the match, be it drop server for another server or drop the game completely for awhile. Anyhow getting little offtopic but I can think of many reasons why would one quit a server other than losing. Change gamemode for example. If you ever played original counter-strike you know how one would go from playing jumping to knife to scouts to surfing to gunning to killing zombies or jailmod etc, etc.. all in one game. Ofcourse cs 1.6 doesnt have locked up public matches. So different matter.

People who quit a match just because they are losing just need to man up though. That's just highly unacceptable and unsportmanship behaviour.

Great example, very reasonably should apply to online gaming.

That is simply poor time management, if you're going to play a game with matches like this, then check to see if any of these things are going to come up, and if you can't be sure, then don't play. The reason you left doesn't matter to the other 5 people (or more depending on the type of game) that you left behind.

Your getting at a user for playing a video game in his spare time, rather than scheduling his life around a video game. Seriously relax.

Theres a reason a video game and a sport is 2 different things. If you care that much about your game, go join a league with such rules. Most of us play games for fun (shocker!!!!)

If you feel people having a life ruins the game for you, your taking it far too serious, or need to join a league or something. If I want to play a game while I'm waiting for a ride, I'm gonna do that. If my ride arrives half way through the game, TS its a game, I'm not gonna make someone sit in my driveway for 10 minutes so I can be nice to people who have no faces.

Get over yourself.

Saw this before I posted. Wow man, you just keep on giving. Are you reading what your typing? Your telling people, if they can't play the game uber seriously, they shouldn't be playing the game. I don't even think me pointing this out even matters, your comments speak volumes.

Some people need to go smoke a J and relax... sheesh.

The Valve Reality Distortion field seems be reaching Apple levels.
