New home audio subwoofer

Thread Starter
Im looking into getting a new home theater subwoofer, I currently have an Elemental Designs a5-350, I was originally gonna just buy 2 more a5-350s, but apparently ED went under and are no longer a company. Which is a shame to be honest. Anyway, I'm seriously looking into getting a Seaton Submerssive HP and just selling the a5-350, has anyone here actually heard a submerrsive, I've read reviews and went to avsforums and what not, but I'm also interested in how awesome it would sound in games. I really want a sub that will make me sick from how low it can dig and how much output it has, any help would be appreciated. Also looking into getting a couple Epik Empires depending on the leadtime on the submerssive, if anyone has any input on those it would be appreciated also, thanks!

the submersive is an amazing subwoofer and because it is sealed it will have some usuable output down to atleast the low teens.

However, if you already go on avsforum.com take a look at lilmike's F-20 horn sub. It will cost you about $400 total to build and has amazing amounts of output. it doesnt go as low as a Sealed sub is capable of but can put out much higher levels of SPL with less power.

Also, if you dont mind some DIY work there are alot of options that can go low and loud. There are LLT designs, horns, sealed, PR, etc.

To get the highest about of SPL down LOW in the smallest size I recomend a PR as you can build a bigger box and have basically an LLT without the huge port and box and you also avoid any distortion that goes along with a port...these cost alot more though and many consider it to be not worth it.

However, you were looking at a submersive so a PR is still in your budget.

Another great option would be to get two subs if you have room for them and instead of dual opposed like the submersive you could have them in two different locations in your room. This would eliminate alot of nulls that are potential in any room.

However, by looking at the measurements of the submersive it is hard to beat for the price when you dont want to do any of the building yourself.

If you have the space, two subs are better than one as it will help flatten bass response.

Submersives are great and proven performers. Another option to check out is JTR speakers. Check out the captivator and the S2. Mark od Seaton sound and Jeff of JTR used to work together. I own products from Both companys and they are top notch! I don't have any of their subs anymore as I'm a DIY guy but when I did, they are the best of the best.

If you want to try out this Theory by Earl Geddes:

http://mehlau.net/audio/multisub_geddes/

With this approach you basically use whatever subs you have available. The way this works is you would keep the eD sub that you have and then add a submersive.

You would measure with the submersive and then add the eD sub and then tune your response to where you want it.

I have experimented with this theory on my own using the Paradigm PDR-8 that I have and the SVS PC12-NSD and noticed a big improvement in my systems performance. However, I eventually took the PDR-8 out of the system for my office where I have a stereo system setup.
