Can anyone really tell the difference between 720i and 720p?

Yep, that would be me. My first-gen HD projection does 1080i, but no 720p (or 720i). I didn't even realize that when I bought it.

Good find, one more reason for me to ignore the PS3 for now.

It uses a proprietary connector. You cant just unplug it and put it in a PC.

It is much better to upscale 720p to 1080i. You wont really notice any difference. However, if you feed a 480p signal into a 1080i TV set, the TV set will scale that up to 1080i. So would you rather have 720p or 480p scaled up to 1080i?

I dont think 720i exists any more, if it even did. Basically, its how the image is scanned. The p stands for progressive, meaning the image is scanned competely in one pass, top to bottom. The i stands for interlaced, meaning that the image is scanned odd lines in the first pass, then even lines are scanned in the second pass. Progressive scanning requires higher refresh rates, but produces a sharper image than interlaced scanning can produce.

Err..

Im saying that just because its at 480 doesnt mean its going to look like a PS2. And still, games can look very good on 480i. Try going to Youtube and looking for Red Steel.
