Need a new router!

Howdy all

Currently running a Netgear wnr2000 that is starting to lag now, poor reception due to only having 2.4ghz. Also for some reason since swapping to WPA2 security my devices no longer automatically connect such as ipad, iphone, I keep having to put the passphrase in everytime I connect.

Anyway im looking for a new router. Now I think im gonna go for something with 5ghz, but I need something with excellent power wireless range too. We have 50MB broadband, which will soon be 100MB I hope. What sort of router should I buy? I was looking at the Netgear WNDR3400, then I noticed the 3800 has supposedly better range. Also some mention having gigabit ethernet, well my internet is only gonna be 100mb for the foreseeable future and I dont transfer data over the network so I cant see why I would need gigabit ethernet.

Can anyone recommend a decent router? Im thinking one with dual band that lets me run both at same time so that all devices in the house can connect.

thanks!

yeah I saw that N66U come up on amazon aswell, its too expensive unfortunately, but the N56U looks pretty decent and has brilliant reviews.

With it being dual band, does that mean you can run 2.4ghz and 5ghz at the same time or does it just mean you can switch between the two? I need to be able to run both at the same time. Also how is wireless signal power on the N56U?

Some newer 802.11n Wi-Fi routers also allow simultaneous dual band communication with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz clients. By supplying separate network bandwidth for each of the two types of links, these routers provide maximum flexibility in setting up a home network. For example, older 802.11b/g clients can be set to run on the 2.4 GHz side of a simultaneous dual-band router without impacting the performance of 802.11n clients running at 5 GHz. The RT-N56U is a Simultaneous dual-band wireless router so this should be fine

also you can play around with the wireless charts to check

Then get it from a UK seller then, the router is sold internationally. I don't live in the UK so I don't know what sellers in UK sell it (probably Amazon.co.uk)

Regardless of where you are, Newegg is a great resource for when it comes to looking at overview specifications and user reviews.

You get the option to choose if you want them to be on the same or swap between the two.
