Asus Maximus V Gene

Thread Starter
I bought my Maximus V Gene board from microcenter on October 2 of this year. When I got home I pulled the board out and saw that the onboard reset button was bent and one the ram clamps was kinda snapped in one spot. But since microcenter is about 2 hours away and I knew that was the only V Gene that they had I decided to continue my build with it anyway. Ive been having problems with it ever since I put my rig together about a month ago. First it wasn't powering on or off properly than the display wasn't turning on. Now the only problems I'm having with it are that it comes out of sleep awfully slow.(My SSD is benchmarking fine) and when I turn the computer off the fans keep going. I'm not sure if it's just the fans connecting to my h100 or all the fans. I'll check if you need me to. Also my GPU is idling pretty hot at around 55 degrees Celsius but I'm not to worried about this.
MY RIG
Asus Maximus V Gene
i5 3570K
Fractal Design Define Mini
OCZ Vertex 4 256
2x4 GB G.Skill Ripjaw X
XFX Double D 7950
Seasonic x750
H100

P.S. Just wondering if you guys think I should return it, RMA it, or just deal with it. Thanks in advance.

teaching.gifCome on man! You have a 30-day store warranty on that mobo. Take it back. They might have another Gene to exchange or at least they will give you a full refund (in-store credit) smile.gif

FYI...You should have taken the mobo back right after you had opened it instead of using it. You would of had a chance in getting a cash refund if they were out of stock. That's how Chicago & Westmont, IL MicroCenter treat us. Hopefully you'll get the same service thinking.gif

That's funny because I got my motherboard from the store in Westmont. Only problem is it's 2 hours from where I live and there's 3 tolls on the way there. Plus, they don't have that same board and that's the board I want.

Actually they just got 3 more in stock. But is there an easier way to get a refund or replacement without spending all that money on gas and tolls.

Just checked and the receipt says 15 day return policy.

I own the same board and it saddens me that this could happen. Like drBlahMan said you have 30-day store warranty, go back and get a new one. I hope this doesn't discourage you from the GENE series it really is a great board.

ALSO.. Yeah you should of returned it right away and got the money back to buy it somewhere else biggrin.gif

Edit: I guess you can call Asus and see if they will do a RMA.

Not worth it since he still have time to exchange for another Gene.

I live approximately 45 minutes from the Westmont store and after tolls, I spend a total of $3 and only burn about an 1/8 of tank of gas. The money you spend on the (3) tolls will probably be as much you will have to spend to ship the mobo to ASUS.
Personally, I'll enjoy the 2-hour ride...especially if I got my lady rollin' with me wink.gif

I recommend that you go back to MicroCenter, exchange it for another Gene. Look at it this way...Several bucks for the tolls and you'll have a new mobo in 2hrs OR wait for a couple of weeks...maybe more to get another Gene from ASUS.

But are you sure that it's a 30 day return policy. I mean I'm looking right at the receipt right now and it says may be returned within 15 days of purchase.

doh.gif.....That's right redface.gif I had forgot that mobos are under the 15-day warranty (I was thinking about the GPUs which are under the 30-day warranty). Well, before you RMA it to ASUS, you should call MicroCenter tomorrow & explain the situation. It's going to be more of a challenge since you had used it. If it was unopened, you would have a better chance. Their technician is going to inspect the mobo & determine if it was used. Sometimes, depending on the person, they will still let you exchange it since you are only a couple of days past the store warranty. I was able to get that type of service a few times in the past. You never know...it might be in your favor...doesn't hurt to try. The worst thing they can say is no.

Yeah but if I drive all the way up there and spend all the gas and toll money it would suck for them to tell me no.
