Dual Monitor Setup (What do YOU think?)

Hi all,

I'm in school for CS and EE. I do a lot of work on the computer, a lot of which would be enormously more efficient having two monitors. I play light games. I have Borderlands 2, Bit.trip Runner, Portal, etc. Nothing too serious. I also just enjoy great looking monitors. From what I've read, this means IPS panels and glossy coatings.

I'm new to this multiple monitor game and have the budget of a college kid, but I also recognize that I will live with this monitor for a while and want it to be quality.

I currently use a 22" Acer monitor with 1680x1050 resolution.

I see two options. 1) Buy two new monitors, probably 22"-24", that are good quality but probably not more than $200 each. 2) Buy a really nice monitor for ~$300 and then wait for a while until I can afford another.

What do you think is better? I really am looking for GOOD looking monitors. Will I be able to find this at my first price point or will I have to pay more and buy them over time.

I've looked into the 27" Korean monitors and those don't really interest me unless someone has something new and unheard of about them.

Thanks for all your opinions. I only come here because I know everyone here is crazy about their computer setups (as am I!)

Thanks! thumb.gif

P.S. My laptop dock has 2 DVI and 2 HDMI ports and my desktop has a GTX660Ti's worth of ports.

#2 I would choose. Buy a nice monitor now, and then maybe reuse your old monitor as a second.

Don't cheap out on monitors, I bought the Asus PA248Q, and I am very happy with my purchase. I love the calibrated colors and 1920x1200 resolution. I think it was a tad over $300, check them out!
The monitor is pretty bulky though- but I don't mind.

Alright thanks for the advice. I saw a thread in the OCN marketplace selling three U2212HM's and I so wanted those..

I've got my eyes on a triple monitory setup of U2212HM's in portrait Eyefinity. Can't wait until I can sneak three of these into my dorm room without my roommate getting concerned. wink.gif

Anyone know much about these monitors? From reviews and their price tag, I think these are the panels for me..
