Need more wireless range.

Thread Starter
So here's the situation, I live in an apartment and my neighbor has Verizon FiOS. She allows me to run wireless off her wireless G router and the problem is that I can't get good signal where I want my computer. I have a an old PCI wireless card that I have had for about 4ish years but it doesn't give me any range. From where I want my computer, the router is upstairs about 30ish feet away. It passes through about 3 walls as well. What is my best option to get decent signal from that router. I like good download speeds, but I care more about having lag free gameplay in any game I choose to play. Moving/replacing her router is out of the question, there is only 1 spot to put it on these apartments and she doesn't want it replaced, even if I were to be paying for it. A friend recommended that I get this:

Is this the best solution to my problem? If not, what would you recommend?

I don't know whether all you have is a computer on her network, or if you have other devices on it too, but the best thing to do would be to get a directional antenna on your PCI card. I don't know if you know much about antennas, but they are pretty darn cheap and you should be able to hook it up to your card. If not, just get a new card.

Something with an 8dbi gain should give you all large increase instead of an omni directional.

I suggest one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833168061&name=Wireless-Adapters

We have had problems getting internet from my grandpa's cabin to the one we stay at. Between the houses is probably 75ft of elevation, 3 walls, two streets, and a row of houses. With just this adapter we were able to see the network(not really usable). Eventually we threw some direction antenna's on and that got us connected.
