Pretty sure the stuff I just picked up is these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820178333&name=Desktop-Memory

PNY 2x4GB 1333-9-9-9-1.5V stuff. Nothing special I know. Price was good and satisfaction was immediate.

That said, I am curious to know if anyone has tinkered with this stuff or knows anything about what ICs are on it and what sort of speeds/timings I *might* be able to shoot for. I have a C3 revision propus if that means anything. So far I am running ~1.57V @ 1600-10-10-10-28-38-1T. It's currently running alongside my old OCZ memory kit, (which is a 2x2GB kit rated 1600-8-8-8 1.65V). Everything seems fine as is and I would be content to leave it alone however, if anyone has any insight into how much voltage I can safely run on these kits for tinkering that would be great.

there is absolutely no guarantee on what ICs you might encounter on sticks with JEDEC specs (like 667MHz 9-9-9) ... most likely, manufacturer doesn't even bother binning these, so these can be anything from what barely does spec to Samsungs that will do 1400+

the best you can do is either pull the HS off or try lowering timings at 800MHz as low as they will go.

Thank you for the insight. It's not worth it to me to go ripping them apart but I figured I would ask

Playing with them...

Hmmm....

1600-8-9-8-20-30-2T@1.66V : booted, but not stable. Noticed the spreaders getting "warm" at this setting so I think I'll call this the upper end limit for voltage tinkering.

Currently testing: 1712-10-10-10-30-40-1T @ 1.57V... (CPU OC to 3.1GHZ)

You should have no problem running 1.65v on 1.5v sticks,whether it helps or not no one knows. The 1600MHz timings you tried are kind of spread out.Instead of 8-9-8-30-38 2t,try 9-10-9-27-34-the 4th number should be near the sum total of the first three.Either way thats very high Cas level for 1600MHz,if you can't get them stable you should lower speed and tighten.On AMD's 1333MHz @CL7 would be much faster.

if your RAM is unstable its possibly because your voltages are different.. difference in voltages can be a major pain with RAM.. i would get the best timings and speed you can from both kits while at the same volts and see how that goes

Just picked up some DDR3 on craigslist. Anyone know much about this stuff?

Picked these up for my TRON Legacy theme build. Got the optional light bar upgrade kit(s). Note, for a quad channel package you will need two light bar kits as each covers two sticks. No issues...
