Best way to increase my PPD.

As the title says, I'm looking for the best way to increase my PPD. I'm currently running 5 poem WU's on my 7850 and averaging 650K. If I added another 7850, would I be able to run 10 WU's or would I be limited by my CPU? Any and all suggestions considered biggrin.gif

most likely CPU bound, how much CPU is five WU using on your I5. I know with my 6950 running 6 X poems it fluctuates between 4-5 cores on PII X6.

Woah, you get 650k PPD using just a 7850? Is that just using GPU folding in FAH v7?

I guessed that would most likely be the case. CPU usage jumps around a lot but is always between 80 - 100% across all 4 cores. I've just switched to running 6 poem WU's and the CPU usage is the same as 5, so I'm not sure what would happen if I added more with an extra card. I would guess that upgrading my CPU to a 3770K would be the best bet for 2 x GPU's , but I'd like to be sure that's necessary before I go and spend a shed load of money, lol!

I think you may seem diminishing returns if you add another GPU, regardless of whether you stick with the 3570k or upgrade to the 3770k. Don't get me wrong, you should still see an overall points increase, but I don't believe it will scale at 100%. The 3570K, like the 2500K, doesn't have virtual cores, so you are getting the benefit of 4 physical cores being available for the multiple WU's. Once you start using virtual cores (2600k, 2700k, 3770k), you will start to lose some ground when running multiple WU's because the cores are virtualized and therefore can not run as quickly.

You are CPU bound. Adding another GPU with POEM will give you diminishing returns. I have tried it.

Thanks guys! I think I'll hang on a little while longer and try pick up another GPU in the next sale. Hopefully, by then, DistrRTgen and MOO will run on my card. If not, I'll consider upgrading to 2 x 7950's smile.gif
