Yeah, that looks like the sweet spot for any meaningful performance difference. The cost is generally just fine and fair as well, so I'm glad that's what I happened to choose when I made my build. I'll probably double to 16GB next month, since it's only about $50-60 for a 2x4GB kit.

I'm glad to see a real memory review as well. Sure, they could do a follow up for AMD users, but even then, you're likely to get diminishing returns past a certain point... and i'd bet it's fairly close to what we see here. I may be wrong, don't use AMD on this build so can't test myself... but informative nonetheless.

I believe it's only SB-E where anything past 1600MHz is useless, due to it having a quad channel memory controller to make up for it.

Not enough to make a difference. With Trinity it will be a large difference, but right now 2-3 FPS isn't going to get you anything playable on HD4000.

A member at [H] did a memory comparison with RTS games. RTS games actually did benefit from faster RAM, and I believe he was testing on either a SB or IB platform. As for FPS, faster RAM didn't make a difference.

Hmm definitely an interesting article. His calculation of latency in NS is certainly interesting. By his calculation my Mushkin blackline set to 1600mhz @ c8(10ns flat) should theoretically be better than 2133mhz @ c12(11.25ns). but my Ram at it's standard 1600mhz @ c9 also gets 11.25ns. So maybe this proves that instead of going for faster speeds and then lowering the timings the reverse is better? my brain is so scrambled right now after reading that haha. Anyway, i ran some memory benchmarks and found that although my overall latency is lower, 2133@c12 was still theoretically faster than 1600@c9 AND c8.
