power saving options question

Thread Starter
hey fellas, i am overclocked at 4.5ghz (2600k, p8z68 v pro gen3)
i have enabled C1E, C3, C6 after having them disabled for a few days since the overclock but nothing has changed cpuz shows it staying at 1.320 vcore and 4.5ghz.
speedstep and turbo are also enabled?

have i missed something?

i am watching it and not toucing anything on the computer, the load is 0-5% is this considered idle ?

Are EIST, C1E, C3 and C6 actually enabled, or are they at Auto/Default? Auto is sometimes silently changed to disabled when the board is overclocked, so make sure to manually enable them all.

ok i disabld c3 and c6 and now every 5-10 seconds the multiplyer drops to 16x for maybe 1-3 seconds and jumps back up so its very unstable, the vcore stays at 1.320 and the bus alaso drops for a second to 59 and bck up to 100

Well, it is normal for the speed to jump around as the CPU gets used - even background tasks can cause it to jump up. If you want it to downclock, you need to enable EIST, C1E, C3 and C6 - if some of them are enabled and some disabled you will sometimes get weird behavior (not so much weird as unpredictable). I think the 59 bus speed thing is just a reporting glitch. Are you using an offset voltage? If you use a fixed voltage then the system won't downvolt when idle.

yes im using a fixed vcore of 1.320. @4.5Ghz
i havnt seen this EIST option, is it short for a longer term ? i have an asus p8z68 v pro gen3
i think i noticed that in the advanced power setting the minimum cpu state is set to 5% and the multiplyer drops when all cores are around or below that figure, so myabe if i punch it up to 10 or 15 it wont jump around so much, in general is it healthy for the cpu to go up and down like that so much, i would think its better if its more stable.

would it be better to use an offset vcore?

can you adjust it so that it drops to the standard 3.4Ghz rather than 1.6 ?
