Purchased a 3TD Seagate Barracuda but only 2048GB show up when I formatted it?

This is it:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148844

It's showing 746.52GB unallocated space so I have no idea why that space didn't get included with the 3TB that I formatted.

Any suggestions; am I missing something?

Your disk is partitioned as a MBR (master boot record) which cannot address more than 2TB per disk

Then create a GPT disk,
Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools. Double click Computer Management and then click Disk Management in the left hand column
Change a master boot record disk into a GUID partition table disk using the Windows interface
If the disk contains any partitions or volumes, right-click any volumes on the disk and then click Delete Partition or Delete Volume.
Right-click the MBR disk that you want to change into a GPT disk, and then click Convert to GPT Disk.
Create your partitions as desired

In disk management you need to make it a GPT formatted disk, not MBR.

Delete the partitions off of it, right click the disk #, convert to GPT, format however you wish.

You have to format the drive as a GPT drive and not MBR. There's a million guides on how to do it in Google.

That was Easy & worked 100%.

This forums is GREAT thank you so much!

Wonder why it had to be GPT? All my other hard drives look filled to capacity and I'm not sure if I used GPT on them?

Maybe someone can explain though.

Thanks again!!!

MBR only works up to 2TB.
