Need Some Assistance Setting Up SSD - Page 2

Alright that is now done and the computer boots successfully in AHCI mode.

However my computer is reading my SSD as only having 141 MB of information (before formatting) under Computer Management.

Any idea on what that problem may be? Also all my firmware is up to date!

Can you try secure erasing it? You can use SAMSUNG Magician.

If that doesn't work call Samsung suppor, you may have to RMA for another.

Have you tried partitioning and formatting it to see what happens?

When I try to secure erase from the Wizard it says the selected drive is in a "frozen" state.

To quote Kirk Lazarus, never go full retard; I went full retard. That 141 MB was the disc for the Wizard installation tongue.gif.

However, in Computer Management above my HD (Disk 1) there is a Disk 0 with 119.24 GB of unallocated space I assume this is my SSD?

Also underneath the (C:) drive there is a System Reserved with the status of Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition) but the capacity is 100 MB with 62 MB of free space.

The 119.24 GB is the SSD. The 100MB partition is the Win 7 repair partition on the boot drive.

Glad you figured it out.

And there's local disk E: with 119 GB of free space biggrin.gif!

Thanks everyone and sorry for my ineptitude! Put everything else together fine in my computer but this SSD was being a bit of a bastard.

Edit: Also to use this thing I assume I simply treat it like a physical HD? Just download things onto it and have them run off of it?

Yep. And when possible use a SSD for the OS, it makes a bigger difference than anything.

Yeah, gonna see if I can find a new Win7 for the cheap or just hyper scrounge around and find my codes for the original copy.

Again many thanks to everyone in this thread! Helped a lot!

agreed..

OP you have a cavier black and now an SSD, ideally use the SSD for your OS and ,maybe some games that might beneficial from running on an SSD.. Then use your WD black for storage etc.. Follow Sean's guide for optimizing your SSD for win 7 and you can get windows down to a small size on disk... I still have 100Gb left on my 128Gb drive with windows, office, heap of small programs, adobe suite CS5
