uTorrent problems leading to slow downloads

Thread Starter
A couple of weeks back I was downloading at speeds around 2.2 mbps. The last few weeks I have been capped at around 1.1 mbps for some reason. I thought uTorrent to be at fault, so today I finally upgraded to the latest version. Now, I can't go beyond 490 mbps on a file that was previously stuck on 1.1 mbps.

Makes no sense... Can anyone offer any words of advice?

The torrent network relies on other people for sharing and distributing files. These peoeple usually jump on and off the network, so if someone with a fast connection went offline then you will loose speed.

So your speed will vary from hour to hour depending on who you are connected too.

Just make sure you have forwarded the port Utorrent is using which should clear up any problems on your end.

Yes. I know that. I've never had this problem before on ANYTHING. I am connected to a lot of people right now but it's struggling to go beyond 400 mbps.

What do you mean by forwarded the port utorrent is using?

Bring up your utorrent page, then go to Preferences->Connections.Look to see if Ut is using a randomized(check in box), or a static port(no check it will use the same port all the time).Select whichever is your preference. There is also an option to use a proxy server if you want.

Whatever method you chose log into your router & navigate to the settings something similar to port-forwarding/port-triggering etc.Depending on your router, with dd-wrt firmware these setting are under the NAT/Qos tab.Put in Ut in app, forward the correct port/s,protocols & set the ip address that Ut will be using enable and your done. Here is a website that will easily help you get this done. You may also want to check your bandwidth setting to.

I thought about this too. Over the past few months I must have downloaded a massive amounts of games from Steam alone worth over 100 gigs... Not counting all the other stuff.
