thanks guys i got the timber at a wood show its a local timber the dark red one is Jarrah with a Birdseye defect (a disease in the timber creates the effect of small birdseyes in the grain) and the orange looking one is sheoak i have built stuff before using the same timbers

this is what i can be possesed to do

Grandfather clock in Jarrah

P8040149.jpg

half round table in sheoak

PB250073.jpg

but enough of that and back to the computer case

anyhow i sliced up a heap of sheoak and jarrah into 9mm slices to make a large panel that will form most of my internal structure and glued them together under clamps

What kind of joints are you using between the slats? It isn't straight glue is it?

now for my next trick

i cut all my panels to size and put them through a thicknessing machine at work to get them all nice flat and level. i also cut up some sheoak for framing

12090027_zpsf44fa639.jpg

now with the frames im only doing 3 sides atm as the distance to the front of the case is an unknown quantity right now but these were done with a kreg Jig and 9mm doweles glud into the holes the kreg jig system says to use screws but in my honest opinion i prefer dowling them as it looks better and the screws will destroy the joint over time

so here are the side frames under framing clamps

12100001_zps68e572da.jpg

also i started to rout out the motherboard backplate and use the MB backplate from the case i had as a template to give me the atx holes

12100002_zpsf86c89a9.jpg

this is with the MB installed onto the MB Tray with all components attached

well solarin yes it is straight glue but it will be reinforced in the case and i tried to beak off one of the end bits after the glue had cured and the glue held and the timber cracked so the glue is stronger than the timber biggrin.gif

I have removed the thermal armour from the mobo to work on it in a real asthetic way which i will show you in a bit
12090032_zpse9241475.jpg

Basically i have started to veneer the thermal armour to give the armour a timber look as well this is a very slow process atm as the glue im using takes 24 hours to set and i can only do a few pieces at a time and also a selection of the colours i will be using on the armour

12090034_zps6bfba333.jpg

I also had time a few days ago to finish routing the mobo tray out completely and finish it off i just need to neaten up some of the routing lines

and i have had a basic put together of the case atm none of this is glued into place this was to give me a few accurate measurements and to give a good idea of what the case will look like when finished

I <3 my Kreg Jig. This is the first time I've heard about using dowling instead of the screws. The dowled joints last longer? I assume you just glue and hammer them into place. I'm getting ready to build a bed frame and want to be sure the joints last a good long while.

My first Sub goes to you steamboatbob, not only because this build looks like its going some where good, but as a fellow sandgroper:D, it's great to see some craftsmanship using our natural timbers.thumb.gif
