Everyone,
I'm planning on a major project for a science competition (11th grade), and it will be a massive water cooled computer. I need your help on the water cooling portion, because I never water cooled before in my life. I've done quite a bit of research, and even managed to come up with a list of parts for cooling.
First off, my computer's specs are going to be:
Video Card: 2X EVGA Hydro Copper GTX 680s 2 GB SLI: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130768
CPU: Intel i7-3930K (Planning on Overclocking): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116492
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 G-Skill Trident X Series: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231589
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme LGA 2011 Intel X79: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131802
Power Supply: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182063
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339
Solid State Drive: SAMSUNG 830 Series 256GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147164
-2 Fan controllers
-DVD Drive'
- And a bunch of really cool sound activated cold cathodes, and 150 LED sleeve lights (with remote)
External peripherals:
Gaming Keyboard and Mouse
3X Acer 24" Monitors for Triple Monitor gaming (3D was too expensive though)
Speakers: Bose Acoustimass 6 and Onkyo 5.1-Channel Home Theater Bundle
And the case that will house this new beast will be:
The Xigmatek Elysium Black CCC-HSA0DS-U01 All Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Super Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811815011
This case seemed perfect because it looks good, it's nice and big and it can hold 2 radiators. Researching taught me a lot of things, from learning what the water cooling components were to the fact that the reservoir feeds the pumps.
I really need your help for this, since this is my first time (It's a high school project), I really want this to work well the first time, and I don't know if the parts I chose were any good or bad, so hopefully some of you more experienced people can help me, and tell me if this is a good set up/list.
About my water cooling setup:
- The tube size for my system will be 1/2 ID 3/4 OD (I got plenty of room for big tubes)
- This will be a dual radiator setup, a 420mm on top and 120mm at the bottom.
- I have chosen Copper for the CPU blocks and barbs to connect everything.
- Hydro Copper Signature GTX 680 is sold out EVERYWHERE, so I had to choose the EVGA GTX 680s (Newegg) and Hydro Copper block (FrozenCPU.com) separately. When I build this rig, I will first bench test it with air cooling (including intel's stock heatsink) to make sure everything works. Then afterwards water cool them (take out the GTX 680 heatsink, and replace with block).
- I spent an upwards of about $1012 (including Hydro copper GPU blocks) For all water cooling components, all on FrozenCPU.com and cathode lights on Xoxide.com (along with Danger Den SLI fittings).
Now, here's the list with links at the bottom:

Fans for 420mm top reservoir: 3X Gelid Solutions Wing 14 140mm x 25mm UV Reactive Gamer Fan - UV Blue
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/13263/fan-869/Gelid_Solutions_Wing_14_140mm_x_25mm_UV_Reactive_Gamer_Fan_-_UV_Blue.html
and for 240mm Bottom radiator: Aerocool Shark Red Edition 120mm x 25mm High Air Pressure Fan w/ Red LEDs
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12204/fan-795/Aerocool_Shark_Red_Edition_120mm_x_25mm_High_Air_Pressure_Fan_w_Red_LEDs.html
I also bought extra barbs in case I run out (I included the barbs with the components on the configuration list)
My questions about this setup:
1. What do you think of this water cooling setup? Is this good? Are the parts good?
2. Is one pump enough? (The one on the list is a really good one) or should I use 2 pumps?
3. Big one: Can I fit the 240mm (2X 120mm) Radiator at the bottom? I'm really worried my PSU will get in the way, (this is why I put links for
all the parts) Can somebody please tell me whether it will fit? I know the top one will fit though.
4. Is there anything missing? Additives? Is the chosen coolant any good for water cooling? Need Advice.
5. Are those fans I chose going to be good too? (I made sure they had high psi instead of just CFM)
6. What do you think of this entire computer setup? (All parts) Is it good?
I do plan on overclocking this too. (and the science project will be comparing air to water cooling)
I used paint to sketch 3 plans on how I'm going to route the tubes. I don't know which one's better, (again, first time ever doing this) So I need to know which is the best route:
PLAN 1 (Reservoir – Pump – Radiator 2 – GPU(S) – Radiator 1 – CPU)

PLAN 2 (Reservoir – Pump – Radiator 1 – GPU(S) – Radiator 2 – CPU )

PLAN 3 (Reservoir – Pump – Radiator 2 – GPU(S) – CPU – Radiator 1 (Same as plan 1 except it goes to CPU before radiator 1.)

7. Which plan is better?
8. How would I set up the water cooling for SLI? (What kind of barbs to transfer GPU 1 to GPU 2?)
Currently, I'm going to use this: http://www.xoxide.com/danger-den-crosssli-fittings.html
Thank you!! ALL help will be greatly appreciated
I will also post this build on here with pics when it's finished (It'll be a while, I really need help first)
