[Build Log] My First Liquid Cooling Project 600t/2500k/6870

Thread Starter
This is my first time liquid cooling a computer. I've used an H100 and H50 before and done great overclocks on them. But I have a senior project to do and my topic is overclocking. I wrote a research paper but now I must make a product. That product is my liquid cooled computer.

The Build - Rig
Case - Corsair 600t
- Side Panel with Windowed Insert
Power Supply – Corsair HX850
Processor – Intel Core i5 2500k
CPU Cooler – Intel Stock Cooler, Corsair H100 Liquid Cooler
Motherboard – Asus P8P67 Pro Rev 3.1
Graphics Card – HIS Radeon HD 6870
VGA Cooler – Zalman VF3000A
RAM – 16gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
Solid State Drive – OCZ Vertex 4 128 gb
Hard Drive – Western Digital Caviar Black 1tb
DVD Burner – LG Supermulti DVD±RW

The Build - Liquid Cooling Components
Radiators – Swiftech MCRx20-XP "eXtreme Performance" 240mm
- Phobya Xtreme 200mm
Reservoir – Swiftech MCRES Micro Rev2 Reservoir
Pump – Swiftech MCP655
CPU Block – Swiftech Apogee HD
GPU Block – Danger Den DD-6870 Water Block
Tubing – Danger Den Clear UV Blue DreamFlex Tubing – 3/8 ID 5/8 OD
Coolant - EK EKoolant Premium Liquid Cooling Premix Coolant – UV Blue
Fans – 3 Swiftech Helix 1800 rpm
Compression Fittings – 10 Swiftech Lok-Seal - 3/8 ID 5/8 OD
Angles – 2 Swiftech 45° Swivel Elbow Lok-Seal Adapter
Case Lighting – 2 Bitfenix Alchemy Connect LED Strips - 30cm 15 White LED

Here is my current build:

It now has an H100 and a HX850 as stated

Just today put in new case lights:

And Swiftech Helix for top 240mm rad and exhaust 120mm:

Here's a diagram of what I plan to do with my loop:

I will keep you guys updates, as everything on this log is also what I'm putting in my senior project powerpoint presentation. Most of the stuff is in the mail heading here right now. I don't plan on modding the case. I like it just the way it is. Hence no 360 rad. ANY comments and suggestions would be nice. But I'm pretty set on the stuff I've ordered. Can't spend anything more.

I'd be interested in what class you're doing this. Also, any chance we can get a look at the presentation or paper when you're done? I'd love to see what a school paper on my hobby looks like biggrin.gif

depending on how good a chemist you are, making your own liquid solution could also be a cool touch, there are some guides online as to what ingredients do what in a water-cooled pc enviroment

The homemade coolant is a cool touch. I was thinking that an integrated fill port and drain port is a good touch and really convenient.

The water block is a good choice, butt only if you are gonna run the parallel routing. It's also very restrictive. I love the raystorm i just grabbed.

Sure I can post the final presentation. Probably won't be much different from what I'm posting here. I'm in an engineering shop at a vocational school and everyone has to do a senior project. I really don't want to have to buy chemicals though. Let alone see which mix together. Liquid cooling is enough. Good advice though. I did do a research paper on overclocking. It's not perfect but I'll post it.

Here's a mediafire link to my research paper:

Can u give me more info on the uses of fill and drain ports? I think they're pretty self explanatory but I'm not sure. I believe the MCRES has a fill port at least. And I couldn't find any other blocks for the 6870. IDK if it matter since I am not doing any crossfire setup. Or was it the CPU water block that you were talking about?

i think he's trying to say that it would be interesting to make a multi-purpose fill/drain hole. also, good job on the presentation! i feel like i could explain overclocking to my grandma now!

Looks nice. Pretty similar to my 2500K 6870 build. Swiftech makes a universal GPU water block and a heatsink for the 6870 ram that goes over it also.

I was saying that a fill port at the top, and a drain at the bottom is convenient. Also an extra point to present. I always hated doing routine maintenance until i put them in.

I used a 5 way block with drain port from koolance, for the bottom. Along with A 3 way from bitzpower for the fill. Butt if you are just gonna rout it to the res. you could just use a pass through and a plug

Drain port

And fill port

Butt otherwise What you have in your setup is well thought out. just my 2cents.gif

Thanks alot! There is a space on the top of the 600t that would make a good fill port. And I could find a place for the drain port as well.
