These 2 things, definitely awesome purchases.

Insert wire


Squeeze Handle.


Perfect strip, every time. This tool actually strips further than is needed for the proper crimping on my wire (18AWG). I leave about 1 to 1.5mm short of the backstop before crimping to make sure I get the proper length. Mandrix mentioned he used a matchstick glued onto the stopper to provide him with accurate depth. Still, this thing strips so easily, I really like it.

So I think that the little silver dot on the right side is where you attach the wire to get a tachometer reading. Anyone have experience with this? For having never soldered anything in my life, this looks a bit tricky. Wish me luck? Oh this is my MCP655 Vario pump btw.

Yea, I scraped off the epoxy, and then tried to hold the wire with my chin while controlling the solder and the gun with about .5cm of clearance for the tool, it wasn't happening. Looks like I may have to invest in a helping hands or something else. Anyone good at this? There is a silicone pathway about 1 or 2mm away from the solder point. I'm not sure if I will ruin the board by getting solder on that pathway or not. If not, it's going to have to be a very precise solder job. Also, since I already scraped the epoxy off the solder point, can i just throw super glue on it if I decide to abort this mission?

I'm getting too cocky for my own good. Hopefully I didn't screw anything up by scraping the epoxy off.

Not sure how much you paid for the pumps...but if you buy them from Sidewinder Computers....for $4 bucks extra, they will solder on an rpm wire for you. And they sell pumps cheap to start with. Price with rpm lead is only $82.

Yea, I knew that going in, but since I already had ordered a bunch of stuff from Frozen, and they were giving me a big discount, I just went ahead and ordered them from there. I secretly wanted to wire the tach on myself, but now when I see what's involved, I'm a bit spooked. Cmon man. Just tell me to do it and everything will be ok. hahah.

I'm horrible with a solder gun. Can't help. I've watched tutorials online....but I have to try hard not to end up with a big blob.

Yea, I think I need to put the soldering gun in some sort of vice and have one of those nasa robots lower it down for me. Unfortunately I'm all out of those right now.

There are pretty good solder tutorials on youtube Ballnuts. If you watch those, they actually teach you pretty good. I'll search for a link for you. Maybe I think it's easy because I'm an electrician! Who knows

Here is a link to a good video! Have fun, but practice first! By the way, radio shack sells blank pcbs that you can add components to which you can solder for your practice sessions. It's what I'd do if I was you
