Yea but most people don't know how to use the group policy editor.

This is true for the strange soul out there who has somehow never stumbled upon a computer before, and to a varying degree (yet still lesser) true for people who have much experience with Windows and know how fun it is to actually make it work the way they want it to.

Most people don't fall into these categories.

Did you just throw them into the Windows 8 environment, or did you spend 5 minutes showing them around the OS? I spent 5 minutes with my mom and sister, and they have absolutely no problems using it.

Sorry but easy after assistance doesn't count as easy to use. Why do you think people still push on doors that say "pull," and vice versa?

Come to think of it, why do doors have to say push or pull on them? They weren't designed intuitively. Oh, yea, back to the lock screen.

Mostly because it's the same as 7 with some annoying features added in. The only things that I see as actual benefits are the reduction of bloatware, fixed mouse sensitivity algorithm and price. It still has all the stupid things about windows 7 in it; they have only tried to appeal to people who don't know much about computers.

Here are the things annoying me

The things I refer to annoying me are:
The search screen not differentiating between apps and normal programs or only showing the app versions of programs
There is no setting to boot to the desktop directly AFAIK
File explorer has those annoying ribbon toolbars
The start button is too small
that bar on the right side that pops up is completely useless

And I won't use metro at all, due to:
full screen windows only
annoying gestures to do with a mouse
really confusing to use sometimes
The windows store is a stupid concept

Windows 8 baffles me too. It's the lack of affordable large touch screen monitors for ~$400 that should be available by now. We have them in smartphones and tablets but not monitors.

I don't want to pay $1,500 for a touchscreen monitor just so I can SWIPE THE LOGIN SCREEN out of my way to get to the desktop because Microsoft has a pipe dream of everyone switching to tablets.mad.gif

Sorry, but Windows 8 does come with a tutorial. And for that matter every Windows OS since XP has had some sort of tutorial. So if you just installed it and skipped over the tutorial, which happens during installation, your point is moot.

You're missing the guy's point.

If a manual needs to exist, never mind read, it isn't intuitive.

Granted, in the world of computers, not much is really intuitive.

I feel like Metro's reception has been worse than it should've been simply because of where Microsoft is trying to push it. The user interface itself is great, although many have shunned it simply because it's touch oriented. But the fact of the matter is any major change would've been met with some outcries, though honestly, those STILL complaining about it need to shut up. Just stick with Windows 7 for the time being, or go with Linux.

It's certainly not a pipe dream at this point. Fat chance anyone from this forum will be switching to a tablet anytime soon, but mobile computing is taking over. Microsoft just wants to be at the forefront of the push when that happens.

Those touch features are tedious to do with a mouse, and you can only have full screen windows AFAIK.
Also, ribbon toolbars need to die.

Damn video game companies, only using Windows.

Oh hail no.....everyone has the right to their opinion. Microsoft designed Windows 8 purely with tablets in mind, but desktop users have absolutely no way of using it as the way it was intended. Desktop users have every right to complain; they are being thrown under the bus.
