Using a LCD 40 inch Sony Bravia tv in 1080x1920 for a computer monitor.

Hey guys.

I'm getting a new PC in November and I already have a really nice 19 inch monitor but I also have an extra 40 inch tv hanging right behind it on the wall. So I'm wondering does using a tv have any real disadvantages? I figured the pixels would bleed a little more and maybe the picture quality would be a little lower. But are their any other dissadvantages?

Ps: I'm only thinking about using the tv during gaming. I would never try to do CAD/CAM on a tv.

Thanks
Happy time PC.

When i used my tv for gaming a while back, everything was delayed. Not sure if that would be the same for you though. It was a 48" samsung.

Oh crap. I sure hope that doesn't happen to me. Dang it.
For 1st person shooters that would just suck.

Thanks

Most TVs will have at least minor input lag (said delay), but it can often be minimized to 1-2 frames via certain settings: game mode, pc mode, etc.

If you currently have access to something you can hook it up to (doesn't need to be capable of more than your basic desktop activities), you can guessimate on how good/bad it'd be in games in that regard by just moving the mouse around on the desktop. If you don't feel/see anything, you're good to go. If it's slight, might be an issue in faster FPS titles. If it's considerable, perhaps only for the slowest of games.

Yeah actually I do have the tv setup and ready to go right now.
My current PC has been hooked up to this tv before but I was only cruising around the Internet and desktop. I wasn't actually playing any games because it will usually BSOD or just reboot itself. But on the desktop I can't see or feel any lag while moving the mouse around.

But I guess once I get the PC ill be able to tell. My 1st purchase is going to be starcraft2.
I will check in game for lag.

Thanks for the help.
Happy time PC.

My computer is hooked up to my 47" 1080p lcd for 24/7 use. It is used to stream movies and tv shows, play all types of games like tf2,borderlands 2, dishonored, and even BF3 on the occasion. I have never had any issues and the tv is 2.5 years old. It did not take me some time to get use to the large screen but now I don't care to play on a average sized screen. I would suggest giving it a shot and see how it does for you.

I have a 32" 1080p Sony Bravia as my primary and have never noticed any delay whatsoever. Maybe bigger screens have more delay? This one doesn't, it's been great for me.

That's good to know. So I have a small chance that I may not have any delay.
All hope is not lost. smile.gif
