Two Kits, Same RAM. Unable to get memory stable.

Thread Starter
Hey guys, i made the mistake a while ago of accidentally buying two kits of 2 x 2GB instead of 4 x (whatever)

Ive tried setting the recomended voltage and timings in the BIOS but i still can't seems to get them stable.

Are there any other setting I can try changing that might increase stability?

What RAM is it? What speed? I doubt it's the RAM, it's more likely to do with a CPU IMC limitation

bump the RAM voltage to 1.67v
bump IMC (cpu/nb) voltage to ..something higher..up to whatever vcore is.
also..well..try that..1st
next step would be to test each stick individually wheee.gif

Not a mistake. You may be experiencing instability you need to deal with out of having 4 DIMMs regardless of setup. Give your CPU-NB voltage a bump or two to ensure full stability with 4 DIMMs. My setup needed that.

Ok, i adjusted the DRAM voltage to 1.67v and bumped up my CPU/NB voltage to match my CPU voltage. After that i proceded to run memtest and it kept failing on test #5. Should I test each stick individually now?

whooah..whaohh..too much cpu/nb voltage could also cause instability..
Let me rephrase..bump it up from stock in increments..testing stability along the way....

What's your Vcore/CPU freq?

So i went back and reset the CPU/NB voltage and slowly increased it. I think i went from 1.15V to 1.17V. I then proceeded to run memtest for a couple hours and got zero errors! I will do abit more testing just to make sure everything is stable.

Thanks so much for the help guys, really much appreciated! biggrin.gif
