The GA-MA790XT-UD4P can support up to 16GB DDR3 according to gigabyte website. I am wondering if I can put in 2x8GB to get to 16GB or even better if it can actually support 32GB. The reason I am saying this is because I have had experience of getting a 4GB installed and registered on my HP laptop that says it only support 2GB max according to HP's website. 2x8GB is cheaper than 4x4GB. Has anyone tried installing 2x8GB on this mb before? Please let me know, thanks.

You could install 2x8gb as it would then be running in dual channel. I would presume you could add another 2x8gb on there; not sure how well it would work. You never need 32gb anyway unless you do some editing, in which case you're looking at the wrong board for that.

You are positive that 2x8GB will work with this motherboard? I have ordered 4x4GB, but I am going to return them and get 2x8GB instead if what you said is true. Would 2x8GB be faster and more stable than 4x4GB? Since this mb is dual channels instead of quad and less ram stick will need less synchronization between the sticks.

I'm not going to say 100% because i don't own the board, but you can run dual channel 2x8gb. IF it doesn't work, don't blame me.
