I also use my headphones on airplanes so there is the added benefit of blocking out the engine noise there too if you travel alot.
P.s.
I am very happy with my SteelSeries Siberia V2 w/ USB soundcard. They are mainly good for gaming as the audio jack doesnt work with my ipod for some reason. That said I use AKG K 271 Mk II for music.

I've gotta say, I get annoyed by noises through my current headset (TB X11s which are open) which is why I'm still a little uneasy about going the open route again. I'm all for the closed headphones if it simply didn't restrict the soundstage... Gah what should I do?! A700x or AD700... thinking.gif

I understand those are also good, but purely for soundstage the AD700 still wins, right? This is going to be primarily for gaming.

Solution? Try semi-open headphones. They keep most of the benefits of an open design (soundstage and bang4buck) while isolation a bit more of noise and more bass. Sort-of like a compromise between both. I have a pair of Superlux HD668b and they perform great. They don't isolate noise as much as closed ones, but at least they don't leak sound. For 60$ and 2 days of burn-in you can't really go wrong.

I hear what you say a lot, but whenever people say that they are usually PC gamers that don't realize they actually are listening in 5.1 or something; not flat stereo.
I actually have JVC HARX 900's as well, and I've tried them out on my 360; basically it's like trying to listen through a wall and it's neigh impossible to pinpoint where sounds are occurring unless they are directly in front of me or to the left or right slightly.
What about the M50's?

Its for pc for me but i keep it set for 2 channel and keep dolby headphone off, maybe the games i play themselves simulate the sound in stereo or something dolby headphone just does not place people as well for me and ruins voice chat( makes everyone sound like they are in a tunnel.) But i know nothing about consoles so i will shut up.

http://www.head-fi.org/products/category/over-ear

If you havent seen this site yet it has alot of reviews for headphones. It is a hi-fi site as well so they will know more about the soundstage than what you would probably find on here.

There are so many options its mind boggling. As I am sure you have already noticed.

The A700x look like a great option but I have read alot of great things about the ATH-M50....the highest ranked closed headphones on the list.

The AKGs that I have I can comment and say that they have GREAT soundstage but their bass is lacking and man recommend an amplifier for them to get the bass up.

I'm considering the Beyerdynamic DT770's now, IF I would be able to lower the bass presence. (Remember, I'm on console) Any way to do that? I would also be using the Astro Mixamp, but I'm not sure of the control that gives me.
I'm not sure if you can tame bass on console, even with the Astro Mixamp frown.gif

But I would still watch a product feature video about it on YouTube.

Well, I've decided on the M50s. Closed, still very good for competitive gaming, but also delivers a good sound for music/other games. These should work nicely... Only $120 as well! biggrin.gif

Anybody know where I can buy a Mixamp Pro? I guess they aren't available from Astrogaming by themselves or something now? I hope eBay isn't my only option, I do want it new.

Edit: Found them on Dell.com as well, but they are out of stock...

Edit2: I went ahead and bought a brand new in box one from eBay. They seem to be the only ones with stock. (go figure) Got it a little cheaper than usual as well, so unless it doesn't work I can't complain. thumb.gif
