Some of these TVs are direct lit, and it reduces the risk that you have to send it back. You can use the search function on amazon to find the posts. There isn't many that use it unfortunately and they will be thicker, and the quality of the screen a not quit as good as Samsung best mad.gif.

Thanks for your opinion, unfortunately I have no idea what TV you are giving your opinion about as you haven't mentioned which it is in your post.

Even then its all subject to preference. I am quite content with my 40" Bravia that I bought back in 2009. I sit about 6 1/2 feet away, and its fine. Although I would prefer a 60", I am waiting on a reason other than a marginally better picture.

My 27" Dell monitor I sit about a 2 Feet away and am happy with it.

Yea but if he plans to play from 3ft away a 60" would be really hard to see all of it.
If he plans to sit back 7ft, a 60" would be preferable.

I know the formula for calculating the optimal room-size to screen-size but I personally would always prefer a bigger screen, even in a little dorm room. Besides, one would imagine that if he included a 60" in his preferences that he probably feels it wouldn't be too big for whatever size room he wants to put it in...

I have played COD 4ft away from a 60" in a dorm room before and had no issue seeing all of the screen. It was a tad too big for me, but the guy who owned it loved it.

Why is that? Do screens in multiples of 23 have an advantage?

i would say any samsung tv. even their lowest end TVs look excellent. LG is also a good option but if you want the best picture, SAMSUNG will not disappoint.
