[Build Log] Project Snowwhite: A christmas special - Page 2

Thread Starter
It was custom powdercoated by Caselabs. I asked them if they could do a custom red powdercoat and they recommended a color they had good experiences with (Cardinal P009-RD02 Dark Red). And they made a really good price. After a few days Kevin Keating contacted me. They ran into a small problem. They accidently painted a door with a XL window instead of a standard window and asked me if I would like a free upgrade to a XL window thumb.gif Nice guys over there ! But now I have the "problem" to rethink the way I wanted to build the rig. I wanted to work with X-flow rads to avoid tubing. I wanted tubing mainly in the area of the standard sized window, which is much smaller than the XL window. Now I dont know if that is still the way to go. Time will tell.

I need a recommendation:
I am searching for a fan controller from which you can easily remove the front plate because I want to spraypaint the frontplate white. Or are there white fancontroller out there ? I only found black or silver ones. I worked with Nesteq MaxZero and Bitfenix Recon and both are not the best choice in my opnion for the paintjob.

Cheers,

Frank

Hi Fuzzy !

Thanks, I didnt know that.
Oh yeah, this thing looks smexy, is brand new and sadly nowhere available. But since there is some time left before the build has to be finished I will wait and keep that as an alternative.

Cheers,

Frank

Ok, I ordered some more parts.
SSD: Samsung 830 Series 256 GB
Cables: Bitfenix SATA 30 cm (white)

Parts should arrive Saturday.

Next step will be taken next Wednesday when I order the core componentes:
RAM: 2x4 GB Corsair Vengeance (black)
Mouse: Zowie EC2 (white)
GPU: EVGA GTX670 FTW
Fans:; 2x Bitfenix Spectre Pro (white)
Mainboard: Hmmm, good question. Because of the color scheme I am in between the Gigabyte X79 UD3 and the UP4.
The UP4 is new (which we all know is always better biggrin.gif ), has 8 instead of 4 DIMM slots and costs about 70€ more than the UD3.
Suggestions anybody ? Bueller ?
Has anybody good or bad experiences with one of the boards. Couldnt find very much on the internet.
Maybe I roll the dice ... or let my bank account take the decision.

Cheers,

Frank

UP4 sure does have newer tech in it, but you can always get a Rampage IV Extreme to compliment the red case thumb.gif

The 830s do not only look smexy, they perform as hell, too thumb.gif And, most important for me, they were super easy to work with. I tried 4 different Brands of SSDs before I decided to try the 830s . There were problems with every one of them except for 830s. I even had problems with an Intel 520 Series SSD. So at 150€ for a 256 GB SSD the 830s, with the 840s and 840 Pros just hitting the market, definitely imo the best bang for the buck at the moment.

And yes, I would like to speed up the build a little bit, but time is the limiting factor. I have so much stuff going on so that I can not put the pedal to metal, right now. But since there is some time left till christmas we all have to live with that´cheers.gif

Cheers,

Frank
