Need Help With Water Cooling (Newbie)

Thread Starter
I want to try water cooling, because i have never tried it before, and want to overclock a bit. Starting from scratch what case should I get. Would a Corsair 650D or NZXT Switch 810 work? And what water cooler should I use? Looking at this one http://www.frozencpu.com/products/15069/ex-wat-201/Ek_H30_240_HFX_Advanced_Liquid_Cooling_Kit_-_CSQ_EK-KIT_H3O_240_HFX.html?tl=g30c321#blank

Or this one http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16891/ex-wat-219/XSPC_Raystorm_750_RS240_Extreme_Universal_CPU_Water_Cooling_Kit_w_Free_Dead-Water.html?tl=g30c321s1310#blank

Which one should I get. Can I also get a waterblock for my graphics card, to fit with these? (I don't know anything so please don't flame)

I wouldnt really recommend either of those with adding a gpu to your loop the 240 rads are a little on the small size and the pumps are not all that strong. The link above is a little more money but it gets you a bigger rad and most important a mcp655 pump which is great.

Alright I'll look into it, do you think that could fit into a nzxt 810 or Corsair 650d

The 650d really isn't a very good case for watercooling. It is really limited with the 240 up top and a 200 in the front without some major modding. My recommendation would be to look through the OCN Water Cooling Club And Picture Gallery and see what others are using.

The amount of cooling really will depend on what you are trying to accomplish. If you are running stock clocks on a cpu and gpu, you can sometimes get away with a 240 rad...If you are doing any overclocking or heavy gaming though, you are going to need a much more efficient system...

The kits can be a good entry into the addictive world of watercooling, however, understand that you will quickly be wanting to swap parts out for better ones, etc...My advice is to do some reading and build your own "kit" based on your budget.

Good luck on your future build!

For sure get the 810 for water cooling, it will be a lot easier.

The NZXT Switch 810 is an excellent water coolers case and I would highly recommend getting it.

As for the loop it self the XSPC Rasa 750 RX360 is a good choice http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14183/ex-wat-182/XSPC_Rasa_750_RX360_Universal_CPU_Triple_Radiator_Water_Cooling_Kit_w_Updated_Pump_and_RX360_Radiator_and_Free_Dead-Water.html?tl=g30c321

It does not come with a super powerful pump but the pump and the thick 360 rad is enough for the CPU and a added GPU block while still being pretty cheap. Naturally building a truly custom loop will give better results so it comes down to your budget.

For the case I would recommend Xigmatek Elysium, it has a lot of space for watercooling
http://www.microcenter.com/product/364204/Elysium-Window_Black_Full_Tower_ATX_Computer_Case#tabs

For CPU block XSPC Raystorm very good block and not expenaive

I would recommend NZXT 810 Switch if I were to choose between these 2 casing. But if you able to fork out a bit more, you could get a Corsair 800D which I am using it. Having a midplate in the casing allows you to have more placement options.

I would suggest you not to get those kits and go custom wc setup. Those kits are good but yet not good enough...

Just remember the 4 main components you will need:

Main Components

1. Pump (Go for MCP655)
2. Reservoir (Go for Cylinder ones, Phobya, EK, Bitspower are all fine)
3. CPU, GPU (any blocks are good except for EK Nickel ones)
4. Radiator (depending on how many blocks, will require a bigger and thicker rad when more blocks are in the loop)

Other Components

1. 2 X Barbs or Compression Fittings for each components (Min require 8pc)
2. Tubing (Depending on the fittings you purchase, go for colored ones)
3. Biocides (Not a must, but good to put one or two drops)
4. Fans (Depending on the rad you chose)
5. Fan Controller (good to have as it control the noise level)
6. T Joint Fittings or Koolance Quick Disconnect Fittings (For Draining)

My WC setup utilized lots of fittings, hope that it did not freak u out. Not a must to have as many fittings like I have in there.

Lastly for loop order, does not matter what goes first. Just remember the golden rule that Reservoir > Pump.
