AMD APU + NVIDIA GPU

Thread Starter
Hey guys I have a friend who wants to upgrade his gaming rig (he doesn't currently have an OCN account which is why I'm asking you this question instead of him tongue.gif) He was wondering whether he could pair his AMD A8-3870K and ASUS F1A75-M with a new NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti or it would cause some problems.

Thanks for your help guys!

should be fine, he just loses the main benefit of the APU and thats the low power/integrated gpu

No, I don't see why he would have any issue.

Personally, I'd get a 7850, as it's $20 more, but offers on average about 13% improvment over the 650 ti. thumb.gif

Won't be a problem at all smile.gif

Or if he's willing to save some money, he could always always hybrid crossfire with a 6670 and get 550Ti-like performance.

On many sites the Phenom II x4's are still available. I suggest OP gets that instead of an APU and FM1 socket board as that is a dead socket. If your getting a gpu more powerful than a 6670 then i don't see the reason to get an APU but if your keen on getting one then all the best thumb.gif

The onboard crossfired with the 6670 should close or match 7750 performance, which exceeds 550 Ti performance.

He said a 650 Ti. thumb.gif

The 650Ti is a good card but if your looking for maxed out performance at 1920x1080 the lowest i suggest you go to would be getting a Radeon 7850.
