Yeah I have disabled hibernation I have 8GB ram. Im putting some things on the ssd just not games as the load time’s aren’t that bad anyway.

I do recommend everyone get a ssd when they can I wish I had sooner even pc's that are slightly older would get a massif performance boost from a ssd.

Off topic for the hdd area but does anyone know of a good guide to getting fans quiter?

How are they loud? Get a fan controller and lower the voltage to the fans till they are quiet. Or get new quieter fans...and a controller still. biggrin.gif

the front one makes alot of turbulance I think its due to the hdd cage being right infront of it. and the fan on the side is making a high pitched noise over 700rpm but it goes away if I cover 1/3 of the fan with my hand?

How are you guy's loading your systems with SSD / HDD mixed in?

1 - 128 gb SSD for windows, a few small apps
1 - 256 gb SSD games (s there a benefit to games on a ssd besides load times or can this be a {raid} 7200k HDDs)
2- 2 hdd in raid for storage

just looking for the general concensus...
dont feel like loading twice...

128GB for OS programs
2x 500GB 7200rpm drives in RAID 0 with a 64GB SSD cache for data storage and games
1TB drive as a scratch disk and for temp files, basically a work space for anything
256GB SSD for virtual machines....upgrading to a 512GB SSD soon.
2TB drive for backup
Server with a 4x 2TB drive RAID 5 array for backup and movies as well

1x 60GB ssd for windows and some applications I want to load fast and operate fast.
1x 1TB for storage and all other applications/programs

But Sean Webster's way seams to me it would be a lot more efficient than the way I have things set up as I need a lot of temp storage (for work related stuff and rebuilt files)

So on my Asus z77 sabertooth, it has
2 - 6GB sata (intel chipset)
4 - 3GB sata (intel chipset)
2 - 6GB sata (asmedia chipset)

Does the Caching SSD need to be plugged into the same port group as the "HDD's" it is caching content from?

example -

If I use two of the four "Sata 3GB Ports" for 2 - 3 TB sata drives, one for a optical and one for a SSD cache drive, will that work?

It just needs to be on the same controller, the intel one.

So yes, it will work.
