MTS file to be smaller in size

Hi,

I've got the Sony DSC-HX200V camera.

When filming it saves the files into a .MTS file ( --> right click on a file, properties gives me this: AVCHD-video (.MTS) )

But 10-15 minutes is already 2GB (wich is fine for me when storing/editting/playing movies on my PC)

I had Nero 10 already purchused before the HX200V so if it's possible with Nero, I prefer that.

Or if some good freeware programs can do it, fine.


So how can I make my files smaller with no loss of quality?

And how can I make them smaller (like some use it in their Avatars???) --> like I could choose how big it would be or I dunno how they do it tongue.gif

Really confusing there mate, you need to try to structure your post a bit better.

What I got from it is you've got an HD cam recording in MTS, you either want the camera to record smaller files or you want to use nero to convert it. I don't know if nero can do that, if you have nero vision that might but I used to use the AVS video converter.

Now, making something into an avatar (like mine) you need to use gimp and turn it into a moving gif file.

you cant make file sizes smaller than 10-15min being 2GB. thats already compressed and very low bitrate. it doesnt get much smaller than that unless you transcode it to smaller bitrate or another format and smaller bitrate.

either way if you try and make it smaller you are going to lose some quality its unavoidable

Yeah I know... sometimes I don't understand them myself tongue.gif but hey my native language is Dutch you know...

Anyway, what I wanted to do is this:

Make the 2GB file smaller so it could be emailed or something... (even tho the quality suxxxxx)

I'll explain why: I have a problem in our house with the gas heater for making warm water to take a shower etc...

After 10 minutes, the water turns cold, done taking a shower.

This is busy for a loooong time, and lot's of "technicians" were here, doing all kind of stuff, but they can't figure it out.

But every new technician that comes asks the same question: can you please let the water run so I can see it is getting really cold after 10 min...

The boiler is 120L and I had to do it a lot of times, so always wasting 120L warm water for nothing...

That's why I start filming the temperature together with a stopwatch, so they can see the movie... (so they can see the temp drops after 10 minutes)

But I also wanted to send the movie to the company of the brand of the boiler (Viessmann) so they can see it with their own eyes, because when on the telephone they always say this and that and blablabla.

Dont shoot in full HD to start. That will save filesize. Also why are you emailing a raw video file? They will just respond saying 'blah blah couldnt open it'

Put it on youtube and send them the link. They will be more concerned if other people can also see their product malfunctioning
