AMD 12.11 Beta Drivers - Page 133

FC3 should have worked better out of the box for AMD user but its the only game i have problems with. It hard right now to request driver because it so close to holidays. I dont think anyone wants to code drivers right now.

I just hope AMD realizes the importance of getting good, stable drivers out in a timely manner.. No one is going to buy another AMD card for their next upgrade if they spent most of their time waiting for better drivers..
So being a 6970 owner I know that new drivers won't improve FPS in my case. My question is: under the resolved issues tab as new drivers come out....would they apply to my card?

Also I uninstalled the newest CAP and the 12.11 beta 11 and installed 12.10 however there is are two folders labeled 12.11 and CAP 11(or w/e the newest one out is). Should those still be there?
I haven't noticed any issues so far just wondering.

They already know.
This happens with AMD every 4th quarter when multiple high profile games are released.
They just get overwhelmed.
And being a long time x-fire user (i had x-fire 6970's b4), I usually finish titles before good working x-fire drivers appear.

This year was promised to be different.
AMD ramped up their Gaming Evolved Program to combat Nvidia's The Way Its meant To Be Played.
And AMD vowed to work closer with developers to ensure better optimized drivers on release.

They definately have the hardware.
I just don't think they have the resources no matter how bad they want too.

So while they're still working on fixing flickering in current titles going into next year, Crysis 3 releases in Feb.
I'm certainly not expecting optimized drivers on Crysis 3's release date, let alone good x-fire drivers for the game.
Which sucks because it looks like it will take multi-gpu's to play the game well.
I hope i'm wrong, but i doubt it.

I have a HD 6950 2GB. been using it for 2 years. driver support has been good. currently playing Farcry 3 with 12.11 beta 11 and 12.11 cap 2. At 1080p with Ultra and no MSAA, Post FX Medium the game is smooth. no issues. very stable. its multi GPU where AMD has to improve a lot. Nvidia has the better multi GPU solution.

I still have my x-fired 6970's in my other rig.
YES, install any latest drivers that have new fixes.
Right now the best drivers are the CAT 12.11 beta 11's and the 12.11 CAP 2's.(they even give a performance boost for far Cry 3 for non-7xxx cards)
So the comments people make about they've already squeezed all the performance out of the 6xxx series is in a way true, but that doesnt mean you should neglect updating your drivers for the game specific performance fixes you'll need.

But if you wanna uninstall them and run 12.10's , then uninstall any CAPs and Drivers, reboot and check device manager to be sure you're using "standard vga adapter' ,then you can safely delete any leftover AMD folders listed on drive c: under the c:/AMD folder before installing new drivers.

I mean, sure we're grateful that AMD is working on fixes.
But it seems we're always waiting.
Our next fix wont be until at least after the holidays.
I mean we KNOW it's the holidays and most of us have time off to do some gaming, but instead we're waiting on patches again.
At least Far Cry 3 is playable with 12.11 beta11's and 12.11 CAP2's, although there are a few "flashes" here and there, especially when exiting the safe house in the very first town in the game.
And x-fire requires using a frame limiter to get smooth gameplay.
Isn't this supposed to be a AMD Gaming Evolved Title?
The Skyrim flickering doesn't make it unplayble either, but its annoying too.
And how long has this game been out now?
The 7xxx series lauched nearly a year ago and they still cannot seem to fix all the flickering issues.
The more performance the drivers give, the more flickering i get.
Now we're told ..... "As far as the flickering goes, I know people are looking for an update: We may have finalized another fix, but it still requires additional internal testing. Because it's so close to Christmas, I really cannot even fathom an ETA. Schedules for everyone at work are wacky right now".
While i appreciate his honesty, it doesn't help.
I'd love to return my two Sapphire 7950's.
But its not Neweggs fault, and its not Sapphires fault.
The cards are excellent and there is nothing wrong with them.
Its the drivers that are still broken, even a year after launch.

I just don't have any reason to keep my GPU's or to buy AMD any more. I don't like waiting and I'm voting with my wallet to show how I feel. I like to keep a open mind about things I don't really like taking sides. But I have used plenty of cards from both companies. And the hardware really doesn't mean anything if the drivers aren't working. I have a game that is two years old. I have used every beta and driver I can think of since launch the best driver was 11.12 for that game, everything since then has gotten worse. 11.12 to 12.3 had constant screen flickering or lines in desktop, folder explore or browser. Also have problems with windows 8 and blocky patterns in windows 8. Its pretty much a slap in the face to a customer that spent more than $1000 in one year on their products. It really looks like they are in over there head, and they don't seem to prioritize this as a company they are in dire straits, in the other area's and meanwhile had the potential to rule the Graphics card market for the last year but really failed to do so. By the looks of the recent driver updates and such great yields, you can really see what might have been at launch. If they had superior non buggy drivers there would be little motivation for any customer to buy any Nvidia offerings. Yet they don't really seem to care about the Graphics drivers department. I don't know what they would do as a company when people stop buying GPU's. We all know they aren't selling CPU's much right now. I just talked to a friend he has bought AMD CPU's for years. He needs a upgrade he just bought Intel for the first time in years, I can tell he wasn't happy about it because he is die hard fan, but he expressed he had no choice.

I just did a fresh OS install so I went from 12.8 to the 12.11 beta 11 with the cap but was experiencing flicker on distant textures in Hitman Absolution and random texture corruption in BF3. I decided since while I have FC3 I don't plan on playing it until a few patches come out from ubisoft and since I have other games I am in the middle of to try 12.10. Flicker gone in Hitman. biggrin.gif

I just did an express uninstall, restart then installed 12.10....restarted again and then ran the catalyst repair utility in the installer. No issues as of yet. FC3 does get some pretty crappy FPS on 12.10 in contrast to the beta but I figure by the time I start playing the new WHQL will be out. BF Aftermath has my attention atm more than anything else.

Should have mentioned only running a single 6970 b/c I am a noob.

If nothing drastic changes I am going green next round if I am going to upgrade my hydra.

Of course that might not happen until the 800 / 9000 series drop and things might change until then but I had horror stories with trifire setup and I will vote also with my wallet. mad.gif

I usually just express un-install all, reboot and install.
I keep an image of a clean install of windows that has everything installed except for video drivers, so i can always install a clean image of windows that has never had any
video drivers ever installed for troubleshooting.
Takes only 6min to restore a clean image of windows with all my stuff on my SSD.
And i knew you were running only one GPU, the 12.11 and CAPS still help with performance on a single gpu.
Believe it or not, the flickering isn't near as bad in the 6xxx series as it is in the 7xxx series. (seriously)

But Yeah, you're in the same boat as all of us.
If we want the performance increases, we've gotta suffer flickering.

If you can't stand the flickering, you give up performance.

You just cannot win
. mad.gif

Its funny how all the review sites that tested the 12.11's never mentioned any of this flickering. rolleyes.gif
