AMD 12.11 Beta Drivers - Page 139

Well, I had AMD/Ati cards since Radeon 9800. I have Radeon x850xt, Radeon HD 3870x2, Recently sold HD 5850 and now I have HD 7970, while tried HD 7870. Before HD7000 i have seen no problem with drivers.

I also had Nvidia 5700, Nvidia GTX 480 for testing. 5700 had bad drivers, as the AMD has now. Its a pity, but its a fact.

How did you overclock your 6850 to 975MHz? I tried once to 850MHz and got crazy artifacts. thought maybe this card is not made for overclocking.

Hi guys,

You know, I had run ATI/AMD video cards for a long time.
I had driver issues in the past & just lived with it.
Just sold my 2 HD5970's on Ebay & had intended to give Nvidia a try this time around.
Then, I got wind of how inexpensive ATI/AMD cards had become. I went on NewEgg & sure enough saw I could get an HD7970 cheaper than a GTX 670.
That got me thinking.
After I had looked through my issue of Maximum PC & saw there was a link to an online revised article & new beta drivers that made the HD 7000 series really take off & run BF3,Crysis & the like much much better.I was sold......
I thought wow, I guess I will just have to go with an HD7970.
I'll give the boys in red another try.

Now that I see 139 pages dedicated to the continued ups & downs of ATI/AMD drivers. This really makes me think twice about going back to a Radeon.

Just wanted to say, that from a perspective buyers point of view. This gives me caution.
It seems drivers have been & continue to be the achilles heel of ATI/AMD.
Sad too, I've run many many ATI cards over the years. And, I've always rooted for them.

I'd love to buy a HD7970.I'm just afraid of what's going to happen after the drivers are installed.

Well I guess I have to chime in now. I have a 7950 WF3 that I bought right near the launch so I paid a pretty penny for it. I have not had any really big driver issues to speak about and all of my games have run very smooth. I also have an extremely nice overclock that was as simple as it gets to achieve. I am running the 12.11 b11 drivers and have little to no dx9 flickering issues (haven't noticed anything) and all my dx10/11 games run like a dream. People complain about AMD drivers all the time and I realize they do have issues, but I seem to have been able to avoid pretty much all of the fuss while always being on the latest driver release. thumb.gif

I'm a happy AMD GPU user. biggrin.gif

Yeah maybe a 670 or 660 will be better. Or even a used 580. I'm pretty much giving them one or two more driver updates to fix black ops 1 artifacts (waited 12 months already). If it's not fixed all my 7970's are going for sale. Also steering friends and clients away at this point already.

Have you seen this thread??

geforce-nvidia-310-70-whql-certified-driver

and

310-70-drivers-an-essential-upgrade-for-all-geforce-gtx-gamers

A 16 pagers and an 18 pagers both for a WHQL driver that came out only a week ago. 12.11beta might not be perfect but it is still beta, AMD is not the only side having driver issues at this point.

Hi again guys,

Just to introduce myself a little.
I'm a 50 year old big time FPS. I love to game on a PC.
Matter of fact, I have never learned how to play console.
I've been a PC system builder for 12+ years now.
I was around when Doom 2 took about 12 1.44" floppy discs to load
on a PC.
If you had to sit around for that.People would be having seizures.

Way back in the days of AGP slots on Motherboards. I was running ATI X850XT's
I ran Crossfire when you needed a dongle cable to attach the two cards together.
That's a while ago.
Matter of fact I go further back to when we used to run 16 megabyte video cards
on a PCI not PCI-E slot.
Ever heard of a " daughter card " ..?
3dFX created SLI before Nvidia ever heard of it. ( they bought 3dFX & developed SLI out of their tech )
My first decent PC I built had an AMD " Slot 1 " processor. I think it was all of 166mhz..? Socket 370 came around
& it was the bomb.
Most of you are scratching your heads saying what is this old fart talking about.. lol

If I seem to be picking on ATI/AMD with this post. I'm not & I do apologize.
ATI & Nvidia have been at war for a long long time.
I've been a Radeon guy for a long time. Ran many many of their cards.
That's not to say I have not run a GTX 285.
After having a real let down with a pair of HD5970's for the last couple of years.
I'm ready for a new TOP end card.
It used to be EASY to pick a new card.
I've spent tha last couple weeks.Reading everything I can from a 660 Ti OC in SLI kicking butt.
To HD7950 BOOST cards being the way to go. To GTX 680's & HD7970's being the top dawg.
Tell you what guys.
This time around..? It is one hard hard choice to make.

I plan on grabbing a 670 2GB EVGA FTW shortly. I can't say that my ATI experience was terrible at all in fact the only games I had issues with at all that may be driver related is with Dishonored and early on release Skyrim. I have never used multi cards and I figure that I have a decent ATI card why not pick up a nice Nvidia card as well and thus can swap if needed. The 7xxx drivers are far from mature and the same could be said when I got my 6970....will they mature? Sure. When? No clue.
