Are the Doplar Radar team at risk if they dont Accurately predict Tornado's now?

Yah right, No scientist is gonna want to give input into these sort of things if the risk is Jailtime for a Bad, but COMMON estimate.

They said, that small quakes are not necesarily indicating a potentially larger quake, I would choose to believe that the less severe quakes are Keeping the fault from an explosively large quake by lessening the stress that is slowly built up.

Let's see how many scientists want to be seismologists in the future. Last time I checked earthquake prediction was not reliable in any country (...and I happen to live on the Loma Prieta fault line).

Would they have charged them with a crime if they did say they expected a major earthquake and panic'd the people only to have no earthquake happen?

wow, this is crazy. Like throwing weather forecasters in jail, or vulcanologist. We don't yet have the knowledge necessary to predict mother nature accurately. Italy is never going to see another seismologist give an opinion again. Italy is part of the EU right? Doesn't it have a modern justice system?

More then enough blame to go around if they're going to start tossing people in jail. How about all the builders and building designers of the last 1000 years who didn't have enough knowledge of how buildings behave during earthquakes to designs earthquake proof homes? Or all the politicians of the last 50 years who I guarantee you have refused to even consider legislating and enforcing modern building codes? Throw all them in jail. Or all the people who ignore the danger and choose to live on an active fault? Throw all them in jail.

So, are they planning now to tear down every building in their country (even all those 1000 year old "historical" buildings the europeans all love) to rebuild to modern code? After the next big earthquake and another batch of old buildings fall down on their heads I wonder who they'll try to blame other then themselves for living in an earthquake prone area in old buildings that aren't designed for earthquakes.

I wish the American courts were this strict with organizations that pay for 'scientific' results that are profitable or politically expedient.

Sure those Italian scientists were probably threatened with the loss of their jobs or even their careers by corrupt politicians, and those politicians should be locked up too, but it sounds like they gave in to the pressure and issued falsified reports rather than resigning in protest over working conditions that did not allow them to do their jobs properly. It seems like they willfully allowed others to abuse their position of authority.
